Should we ban all breeds of dangerous dogs?

Woolly Blue, that's clearly not what I ment. I'm saying IF a dog attacks someone then the owner has to take SOME blame. What's so hard about that? It could be a slap on the wrist for a first offence and a fine for the second. After that I think its more then fair to expect the owner to face some jail time. I don't see anything unfair with that tbh.

I like the licence idea. £50 a year for a little harmless dog up to £2,000 a year plus regular spot checks for a 'dangerous' one

Crazy idea my dogs are well behaved but I would struggle to afford 2 grand a year to keep them all you would be doing is pricing working class people out of owning larger dogs.

Instead come down hard on the criminals I watched a show yesterday where a convicted heroin addict had a Stanley knife in his coat in public and didnt get charged we dont enforce the laws

Ban drugs - that works.
Ban guns - that works too.
Ban grenades - well ditto.
Ban driving too fast or pished up - how many fatalities?
Ok time to demonise dogs again, the press sells some old rope yet again.

Back to the gogglebox proles.

well said mate as both a gun and large dog breed owner it annoys me whenever as soon as some isolated incident like a psycho shooting a gun or a scally's dog biting someone we get the media out in full force demanding bans yeah that will keep illegal gun holders and backyard dog breeders at bay whilst the 95% majority legal gun owners/dog owners who are sensible and play by the rules suffer

You've got a gun and a large tough dog?!

May I take this opportunity to say what a great poster you are and at the same time please disregard my opening post about banning your pooch!

Actually mate, I was being serious.

The vast majority of dogs, if their owners bother to train them, are under control because they see humans as being leader of the pack. 9 times out of 10 it's the owners which are at fault. I stand by my recommendation for neutering owners and dogs if the dog misbehaves.

haha the future brother in law got me into claying! in all seriousness though mate its the owners in most of these cases and in the other its these backyard breeders that breed these dogs without sound temperment, as an example, you look at how many staffy's go on the cheap for sometimes even £100-£200, I got my boxer from german stock for £750 and my bullmastiff for £400 both from reputable breeders who breed pedigree dogs that have sound temperments and are less likely to have aggressive problems as they grow. The laws are there to enforce the dangerous dogs Act ban pitbull terriers but I guarantee everyone will know someone who has a staffy that is a cross with an american pitbull terrier, if they are found the dogs get confiscated but these individuals mainly scally's dont take the dogs to vets etc. which is why they go under the radar.

So, best ban dangerous dogs, then, all things considered.
