Baines.

So according to them, he's going to replace a 31 year old on the decline left back with a 32 year old on the decline left back if he can't sign a 28 year old left back who has already told them no ?

The Daily Mail is ace.

Why the in the name of actual Christ would he be sold for £15m? There would be actual riots if he went for as little as that.

No chance mate.

Hes worth at least £20m and id be upset if he went for that.

All this rubbish about him only being a full back. Hes an attacking fullback who gets assist after assist. Hes not your average run of the mill left back.

Some of the comments about Baines:

a little birdy tells me BAINES IS PSG BOUND!! not sure he'll fit into there style of play..you know : the tika-taka-tika pass pass pass cutlure that is so well entrenched into the french style of play!! he'll probably have to work his way up thru the resereves and the under 18s but yeah good luck to him ....he'll need it lol! x
And in reply to this:
@bluelight117 you clearly know nothing about bains, he's 26 so couldn't play for the U18s he is also a RB. I bet you've never even kicked a ball in you're life, something tells me you're a man city fan.

If you cut him open he bleeds red.
Clearly this guy doesn't understand the saying as we all bleed red.

The mind boggles at human stupidity.

I've been saying Baines is the best left back in the world for a couple years now, never expected him to step up and make good on my drunken boasts, but I'm made up!

Really hope we can hold on to him, but more importantly, I think Oviedo can learn a lot from him. Oviedo will be 27 or so as Baines nears the end of his career, and if he studies under him for the next 4-5 years (and obviously will get substantial time in midfield a la Coleman), I think he could be the same type of player.

"Baines is making 35% less crosses, and whereas last season he was creating over three chances a match, for this campaign that figure stands at just 1.27. He is yet to register an assist.

Instead, Baines has made almost 30% more tackles, and should perhaps be thanking his new manager for the adjustment in his duties – Roy Hodgson is unlikely to pick a first-choice left-back based solely on his attacking threat, and this is the opportunity to convince in a more defensive capacity".

I had suspected that our full backs weren't getting forward as much. There's no reason why they shouldn't though because Baines is capable of getting back into position quickly and Barry can fill in at centre back if Distin goes across to cover.

I'd thought that they were just being less effective because we were playing narrower in midfield and not creating 2v1 against the opposition full back as much.

Maybe Mirallas is appearing to be less effective because he's being ask to create chances rather than getting on the end of crosses from Baines and Coleman?

Think the main difference with kev is RM is asking him to stay out wide hugging the touchline (which kev says he's prefers) Moyes had both pienaar and Miralass drifting in-field which obviously left exposed space for the FB's to expose. Under Roberto that space just isn't there!

Mirallas is less effective because he's a direct player in a system that requires patience and because players in the Prem have had time to adapt to him.

Baines is less effective because of a constant rotation of left midfielders and increased defensive responsibilities.

I'm not so sure that's true. In the derby last year Mirallas was out on the right and didn't see anywhere near enough of the ball to influence the game. Whereas he's drifted right across the line this season.

He's still the joint-top assist provider in the league, so he is doing the business, but he hasn't been scoring with the same frequency and he hasn't been going on the same mazy runs, so he appears to be performing much worse.

Maybe our slower build up under Martinez is giving teams the opportunity to get back in numbers and that is depriving us of space?
