Baines: We have no chemistry

What the overall feeling now on this issue, I've only heard that Martinez said it was misinterpreted but Baines has apologised anyhow, just looked on Twitter for the first time today and the fume is bigger than it was Sunday PM.

The problem is even if a bainsey chant goes up at the match Martinez won't get the reason he'll just think its phenomenal support and that the supporters are in a good moment.

Misinterpreted or not it was a very fair and honest criticism from Baines and it wasn't done maliciously, he didn't point any fingers or name and names. What he said is not far off how the majority of Evertonians are feeling about the team right now.

.

Spot on. Baines did nothing wrong, didn't say there were issues with the coaching staff or the manager, he just said the chemistry wasn't there. He could equally have said "things aren't clicking", they'd both be true.

If the press and the internet have picked up on that as meaning there's all kinds of discontent in the squad, then that's not Baines fault. Maybe that's what he was hinting at, but I doubt it was.

Unfortunately Martinez, has just made it worse. I presume he knows what the questions are going to be before the conference starts, and, even if he doesn't then he'd still have known that that little Baines interview would be referred to. Either way, he should have had time to think about what he was going to say. It's not a massive thing, but he could have done a lot better.

It was refreshing honesty that has been sorely missed over the last little while of Martinez sound bites. He put his foot right in it by talking about an apology.

He could have blagged it off and said "the players and myself have had some discussions and put some extra work into the training ground to hopefully improve in these areas" or just said "Yes, we have looked off-form at times this season but I don't necessarily agree that it is a chemistry issue."

As I've said this little tiff between those two has pulled me off the fence and I just want rid now. I no longer think he is the man for the job anymore. I don't believe in him as a leader, he is constantly shirking responsibility and seems to hold himself accountable for very little. I think we can do better.
