Baines: We have no chemistry

I've had enough of the caustic comments in here. Maybe the manager is out of his element, and that's something to base the acid comments. But should it be a balanced equation? Enough with the salt on the wounds. Lets not let Baines' comments be the catalyst to an over reaction.

Phenolphthalein.

Not many in the squad have a history of being in the top 6 regularly though. Whilst we are not as bad as we currently seem to be we are not quite as good as most of us think we are either. There are some major flaws in our players.

Nothing that a good coach/manager should not be able to iron out over 2-3 seasons. Just doesn't look like that's going to happen in this case though. The raw materials are there in most of the players and yet they seem to be regressing or lacking motivation. Either the manager is not good enough to take the players forward, or certain players just don't have what it takes. In either case, the solution is simple.

A lot of these flaws are not on the players but the manager. Fitness, no idea about how to defend as a team, no idea how to defend set pieces OR corners (ffs, they have TIME to set them up too!). Closing down players, pressing. Our players do none of these even remotely effective.

Even if you want to take ONE of my points, take the most glaring one: fitness. We don't exert ourselves tremendously almost at any sustained point in any match, yet most of them are absolutely knackered around 75-80 minutes.

It's the bread and butter stuff that he just completely ignores. How he gets away with it, I'll never know.

I disagree with some of it.

If you look at our games we actually set up to defend fairly well. We dont give away loads of chances as such, there is just a (massive) problem that every chance seems to result in a goal.

Unless Martinez was Coleman's PE teacher in school he is not to blame for Coleman being an idiot in the last game by trying to use his right foot to clear. that is such a basic error that you can only put blame on the player themselves. And this season has been littered with nonsense like that and not only in defence. We have missed some ridiculous chances or took the wrong options in the final third. Set pieces are similar, its basic 101 football and the players cant seem to organize themselves which they really should be doing.

You may be on to something with fitness to be fair. Thing is I'm not sure if they are unfit or just unwilling. Even going back to when Moyes was here I have questioned the mentality of a lot of our players. They always crack under pressure in a glorious manner when it really matters.

As I have said before if Martinez is to go then fine but I hope some of our players go with him as many of them get away with murder.

As I said, its a mental thing for me, that is not easily rectified. By and large our players are losers. Talented obviously but they have a history of being losers.

A mentally strong manager will toughen up Stones, Barkley, Lukaku, Deolofeu and bring in stronger characters. Martinez is soft, and whilst he encourages players to express themselves which is positive, he does not help them develop as characters by pointing out where they can improve.

Fair play, but then that's part a new manger's job. If you can't get them to change that mentality then get rid. Bring in more leaders, someone to rally the troops when the chips are down. There are no leaders out there. No fire in their bellies. What is the manager doing to change this? Who has he brought in that fits the bill?

Plays for Olympiakos?

Hmmm, you're right on the mental thing, but Howard, Cleverley, Barry, Robles, McCarthy, Kone and the manager to name just 6 all have winners medals.

The players are not losers - the majority, and to a massive extent the club, just don't have a winning mentality... at present.

The club needs to bring in some top sports psychologists to address the mental side of things, because patently at present, we are incredibly weak between the ears... the slightest thing that goes wrong multiplies like a fungal cancer and incredibly quickly during games.

Any successful organisation is strong at the top, be it a CEO in a company, headteacher at a school etc. The problem with this club is we have a Chairman who happily accepts mediocrity and puts no pressure on those below. That lack of pressure on the manager will no doubt trickle down to the players as well.

I honestly believe we will only improve as a club once Moshiri gets full control of the club and Kenwright, Woods etc. Leave the club.

One of the few people I've seen spell that indicator correctly! Good job.
