Atmosphere at home games........

This is a topic for the majority of fans now - Norwich have fan fundraisers to improve their atmosphere, Sunderland the same.

Football has been sanitised and is also very corporate compared to back in the day. It's also expensive and I suppose fans are customer's now and expect a decent 'product' and when it's not very good, people are annoyed.

It's hard to get behind turds earning millions jogging around the pitch and getting battered at home from someone like Watford or Burnley.

The gulf between fans and players is huge now and it shows in the atmosphere. The gulf between being top 6 and the bottom 14 is huge too.

It can't all be because we're crap - atmospheres/attendances are poor at Man City and Arsenal etc.

A decent atmosphere can affect the outcome of a game, don't think that can really be debated. Its more about giving the team that slight advantage than making peoples 'viewing experiences' more enjoyable.
Sure a decent atmosphere can play a part in games going one way or the other but you know what makes for good atmospheres? When the team of multi-millionaires actually try to be professional and actually make an effort rather then disrespecting both the fans and the club who pays them. We could have the best atmosphere in the world at Goodison and give the side 'that slight advantage' every game but it wouldn't make a jot of difference with this side who don't care and couldn't be more blatant about it.

Goodison has always been a reactive crowd and not the flag waving,sing-a-long of others.

Even, ex-referees and managers have commented how hostile & supportive we can be.

Real not Fake

But it hasnt been like that for 5 years. And in fairness i dont understand this goodison has always been a reactive crowd. It hasnt. Many many time i stood in the gt4 section in the late 80 90 and early 2000s and we were signing from the start. Football has changed and our fans failed to move with it. Unfortunately much atmosphere need to have a form of being organised now. A section. It adds to the atmosphere. We dont have to have a flag waving crowd with drums. But we need an atmosphere. Away support can still be top notch. But home has been brutal for 5 years now.pity bcause i think its worth a couple or more results from draws to wins etc.

Its not the be all and end all but its a pity that it has turned so bad.

We definitely need a singing section and hope that carries over to BMD

Sorry, I have to disagree. We can be very vocal pre-match but it really does depend on the opposition / importance of the fixture.

Football has changed, fans care about the team they support. The players. They have a different relationship with the game, it’s simply their job. They are educated from an early age that whatever they do they will never appease every fan, so they become immune to whatever is said or heard about their performance, justified or not.

I get it, when the team plays well, and the crowd applaud, its becomes a case of they get us.....and we say they get us. When it’s what we see most weeks in L4, that romantic notion gets lost. We usually complain and object to the money we, as fans, pay each week compared to the money they earn as professionals in the team we support - most of us probably have said they dont t care as much as we do. I have. Reality is, the Premiership is now a television spectacle, it’s become less about the fans at the game. Look at the reliance on season ticket money v TV money to see how the balance has changed.

Bearpit,, hostile, white hot, incredible under the lights, rocking........heard Goodison described as all of those. But I’ve heard plenty of others too. Since we’ve gone all seater, Global TV audiences for every game, that rapport between fan and player has somehow changed. There is genuine apathy from many who regularly attend our home games in the past few years; the quality on the pitch has seen to that, asking for this to change overnight will need a significant improvement from those blessed to wear that shirt. The fans are not the problem. I can assure you of that. This Club at times, does not deserve the support it gets. But, all said, when that magic happens...it’s the greatest place on Earth.

totally agree with this and great post. I remember Lampard saying he hated playing at Goodison.........just not sure many players would say the same now.

Will you and your 2 other aliases be part of the singin section?

Ita not the greatest name for that area in fairness "a singing section" but the biggest and smallest clubs all over the world have sections where the more vocal support can do their thing. For us it was the gwladys street terrece lower. Now that area is seated and a mixture of all sorts in there. We need a standing section in new stadium. It can be done safely now and those non vocal gentlemen and ladies can relax in the seats elsewhere.
I hope we are up for it sunday.

And therein lies the reason behind the atmosphere issue at GP -- we simply are very rarely involved in absolutely critical games. We haven't had any this season yet. And the only reason we're getting our first one on Sunday isn't really anything to do with the importance of the game but just to do with local pride. Very sad.

The Park End is a strange one. It seems an early exodus occurs there more than anywhere else. Maybe cos it is easier to get out than the older parts of the ground? I would rather say that than insinuate the Park End folks are "lesser fans". However I was in there when Tranmere beat us in the cup and the behaviour was awful.
