It’s quite unfathomable that people one would assume are intelligent and educated could be so sucked in by Trump and his cronies to behave like that. Baffling really.
That's really been one of the most difficult parts of the Trump era for me. Seeing people I've known for years that I know are otherwise smart and decent people completely abandon their principles and be taken by such an obvious con-man.

These's are not always mutually coinciding. Likewise, you can have academic intelligence but be lacking emotionally or morally - see the likes of Goebbles.

Sadly, we've been experiencing a bit of a perfect storm with the way politics and the economy have been doing, meaning people have been sucked into this.

Propaganda, indoctrination and perhaps not the most resilient social compass has allowed people to be drawn in to this nonsense.

Thankfully, the flip side of it is that we do have lots of people whose perspective is perhaps more enlightened than ever, otherwise it would be dark, dark times.

If Trump can't run in 2024, so be it then. Ron DeSantis will step up in 2024 with his modern conservatism and should sweep the whole election. The fact that he turned Florida from a strictly purple state into a deep red state like Texas, is a huge testament to him.

DeSantis turned Florida deep red by pushing policies that encouraged Republicans from blue states to move there, not by somehow reaching across the aisle and creating some broad appeal. In some ways he's just Trump-lite and in other ways, particularly LGBT issues, his policies are actually far more cruel and heinous than anything Trump ever got behind.

I'm not saying he can't win in 2024. The Democrats don't have anyone particularly inspiring, particularly if Trump isn't on the ballot to drive turnout, but it remains to be seen if DeSantis has enough broad appeal to win a national election. He's never been particularly good on the debate stage, and unless Trump is in prison, he's going to have to finally go head to with him. Then there's the issue of if Trump doesn't win the nomination whether he's willing to step back and endorse DeSantis, or burn the Republican Party to the ground by running as a third-party. Will be hard for DeSantis to win without most or all of Trump's die hard supporters.

I understand that DeSantis encouraged the conservatives to move to Florida but large parts of Miami metro area is now largely voting Red and that area is mostly Hispanics, not retirees. His appeal is very big currently in Florida and he's seen as the candidate to flip back Pennsylvania, Michigan, Arizona, Georgia etc again for the GOP.

Trump-lite? I mean buddy, that's the whole point and appeal of him. Trumpism is the way forward but the GOP need a pragmatic sensible mannered version of Trump and that's exactly what DeSantis is willing to deliver. His policies in Florida have been perfect and his "don't say Gay" bill was largely welcomed by Floridians. Most die-hard Trump supporters are fine with Trump not running in 2024 if it means an appropriate replacement like DeSantis runs, and not some RINO like Romney, Paul Ryan or the Cheney's.

One thing however, I really wish Elon Musk could run as President but it's a shame he can't run due to his birthplace.
