2 seasons, 3 seasons max and by that time hopefully the likes of Galloway, Holgate, Foulds, Browning or Pennington would be ready to step in and then that's been 9m well spent on a top pro and a quality cb imo mate

Distin signed at 32 and worked out very well until 14-15.

I reckon 3 or 4 is reasonable.

A defender who'll lead solidly from the back with an abundance of grit, tenacity and leadership. He also does the bread and butter stuff well.

Exactly what we've needed for a couple of years now and I'm confident we'll be much steadier with him in and around the squad.

Some may talk about how long he'll have left at the top level, but he's mainly been bought for the here and now and for the next few seasons.

As long as he does his job well in that time then it has the potential for being a fantastic signature for the club. Arise Sir Ashley!

Given the insane prices we are seeing some players go for this summer, 9m-12m is a cracking bit of business for a proven PL defender and international captain.

We all know he's nearly 32 but this isn't a signing for the future, it's a signing for right now.

I think he will be great for us and ticks a lot of boxes that we desperately needed to tick.
