I think that CA has a very high bar for Anthony Gordon to reach before he gets to play regularly and he hasn't reached that bar yet.
We know that Italian managers place as much value on defending as attacking and I think young Anthony is learning some very difficult lessons at the moment.
I believe this in part may explain his apparent drop off in form as he struggles to become more of an all round player... he was always able to attack but is now learning how to add defensive work and at the moment he has not been able to master what is required of him completely.
He is not such an incredible talent that he can be excused defensive work because of what he brings in an attacking sense.
We must be patient and in the long run we will have a better all round player.
That's all fair comment and I wouldn't have had issue with it had it not been for the much publicised "knocking on the managers door" episode early in the season.
At the time Gordon was showing exciting form, albeit in League cup games, but was outperforming more senior players like Bernard, Siggy, Davies, Kean and Iwobi in those games.
As a result he was "taught a lesson" for his outburst, but more importantly deprived of valuable minutes playing time for the first team at a time when his confidence was sky high and his form excellent. I'm not saying he should have been starting loads more games, but he could have been used more from the bench, especially when Richarlison was out and so many of our more experienced players were performing badly. I'm not surprised he's lost the form and confidence he was showing earlier in the season.
I love Carlo. I think he's been absolutely brilliant for this club and we're extremely lucky to have him. But in my opinion he hasn't handled Gordon very well, and I should be able to express that opinion on an internet forum without the Carlo gestapo jumping on my back lol
