(Another) Teachers strike

Are there any scabs who wont strike lad?

The strike will be patchy I reckon. I will probably join it as it has been decided democratically. I don't think it hurts the people we are in dispute with though and that is one of the reasons why many will go to work as usual.

I've worked in the private sector and been a teacher for over ten years. Teaching is harder. I worked through every holiday and weekend when I was teaching. I took about 30 days a year holiday.

BTW... They're striking because the Tories are ****ing everything up and don't know what they're doing. They do pay their own pension contribution. It is taken at source each month. They're trying to mess with the money that has already been paid in. They're also making it so that teachers don't need to be qualified anymore. Chicoazul is so right.

Boo hoo. You think everyone else doesn't take work home with them, or do it whilst on holiday? Cmon, get real.

Every single teacher I know has the most cushtie life imaginable. They have got no idea.

Oh and we need to get rid of this myth that teachers are somehow noble souls who have such a love of learning etc. I can't think of a single one like that. They're all in it because it's a good career and they read a damn site less than I do.

When I enquired into PGCE training the vast majority of the others on the open day were from poor universities who wanted to teach because it was a pretty much guaranteed job with great perks and pensions. Not one of them had a nerdy passion for the subject they wanted to pass on to the kids.

So yeah, sorry and all but I have absolutely no sympathy for teachers as most are god awful.

How's teacher morale at your place as far as Gove is concerned/ have you been made into an academy?

I think many of us are concerned at the mess Gove is making of things. The school took the 30 pieces of silver and became an academy by choice. At the moment everywhere either smells of paint or looks like it has been trashed as it is waiting to be painted.

That is what an open day is, any fool can go along. It sounds like a lot did.

When I read the topic, I honestly thought it's South Africa, seeing as we have a weekly strike.

I understand that the teachers become frustrated, being one myself, but the day you decide to be a teacher, you decide to be there for the learners. It's unfair to take your unhappiness out on the kids because you're unhappy.

If only the strikes in South Africa were about pay only. We had our very own Minister of Education say that it's not her responsibility to make sure the schools have work books.

So many strikes, so little time.

So obviously, I don't agree with strikes.
