Keshi has ambitions of getting Big Vic to make himself available for Nigeria again

Nigeria coach Stephen Keshi wants to hold talks with Victor Anichebe about his availability for the national team.
The Everton striker recently put his international career on hold so he could "manage his body accordingly".
Keshi is hoping to persuade the 25-year-old to change his mind.
"Anichebe is a great striker. He is young, strong and gives us several options in attack. I plan to visit him in England and talk to him face to face," Keshi told BBC Sport.
"We've tried in the past on the telephone but now is the time to speak to him in a proper meeting atmosphere.
"He's a smart boy, intelligent enough to know what is good for his body and we have to respect his fitness programme with his club.
"We have to put this into consideration when we talk to him. Hopefully, he can change his mind and make himself available to the Super Eagles.
"I need the support of the Nigeria Football Federation to make this happen as soon as possible because we cannot afford to lose a player like Victor Anichebe."
A former England youth international, Anichebe switched allegiance and played his first game for Nigeria in March 2008.
He scored on his debut in a 2-0 win over South Africa to help the Super Eagles reach the 2008 Olympics and he was part of the squad that went on to win silver in Beijing.
But Anichebe has been plagued by injuries over the past few years, including a groin problem on his last appearance for Nigeria in a 2-0 win over Madagascar in 2011.

Now this isnt just after tonight, but i actually really dont rate the lad, for me he just isnt anywhere near Premier League quality and doesn't have the attitude either, he looked on par with players who looked knackered after they had been on for the full game, there was times he could have chased down balls and he just didnt move.

6 Premier League goals he has since he broke into the team over 3 seasons ago now?
You wrote this over 4 years ago and your observations then are as valid today. Incredibly, there are people on this site, and others who still talk this clown up wittering on about last season being his best ever. That might be true but his high water mark wouldn't result in most players getting their feet wet. Totally ****e player.

I think he's a good option off the bench and can still improve as a player. I would turn to play him ahead of last years Jelavic too (not that this is any way a positive reinforcement of how good a player he actually is like).

I'd rather us have kept Vaughan or Beckford.

Doesn't he bizarrely hold some kind of European scoring record for us as well ?

Victor Anichebe and Scoring Record is an Oxymoron if there's ever been one.

I've always thought he was an injury prone tart with a poor attitude

......but I have to give him some credit for the change in his game that came about last season, when he actually put a shift in on occasion & found his shooting boots. It'll be interesting to see what Martinez can get out of him.

Martinez must think he is half decent because I can remember a couple of seasons ago they put a bid in for him. around 2mil I think it was

i love him.
and i don't want him sold.
love watching him barge through defenders, or receiving the ball in the box, turn and shoot.
don't care too much that he's not super amazing, really enjoy watching him play.

Good squad player for us to keep and rotate in, based on his contributions last year.

This year, and his stint in Europe a few years back, have been the only times he's shown anything of note. When you take into account that he's been in and around the first team for 7 years, it's nothing to write home about.

That being said, the season just gone he looked a different player. But you only have to look at the game against Spurs and his 1-on-1 with their keeper. Any striker worth their salt would've looked to chip that over the keeper.

He's never going to be a top quality striker, in the same way that Walcott won't. Both have their strengths that they play to, but they aren't consistent enough, nor do they have the quality of your van Persie's, Drogbas etc. (Granted, Walcott's come on a fair bit in recent seasons, but the point stands).

He's a fantastic option from the bench, and one of the few strikers who looks better with his back to goal. Good sub, but needs to do a lot more if he wants to lead the line, IMO.

I agree with some of that failed to mention he went into decline after that horrific Nolan tackle - had a good season last year - needs to get better, and slot more goals in under Roberto this may happen!
