Angus Kinnear

I think they have committed to him. They just dont want to openly say they've handed an extension because they know that's not where the fanbase are on Moyes.

The fanbase are either 'get shut and get Iraola/Glasner in' or 'let him see this contract out for a season more'.

It's just games. No one hands more cash to get it over £250M for two summers to a manager who they dont see as long term.

They see Moyes as long term if they ignore what's on offer manager-wise elsewhere this summer.
This is my reading of it.

It sounds like they're a lot more likely to extend, prob 2 years, than either of the other options.

Maybe mid table obscurity is ok for TFG. They picked up a bargain and staying where we are while growing commercial rev for a few years is not a bad outcome for them, if they want to stay/sell.

I don't see the rush in extending his contract. There are no PL clubs waiting to pounce on Moyes (unless desperate).

The big if is how do we reconcile manager with 1 year on his contract with buying ('experienced') players this summer.

I don't take too much notice of the chief exec. His remit is doughnuts and chicken tenders.

At least he can be talked about in the same conversations as Jack Addenbrook, Sam Allen and Syd King.
Make one for some striker who scored tons of goals during a very long career while you're at it.

I happen to think that surviving in such environment for so long he must have more qualities than just luck. I think a lot of people just don't understand just how demanding this job is and has gotten way more demanding. It has nothing to do with luck. He basically kept Everton going while Kenwright siphoned tens of millions to his mate Green (something to the tune of ten million every year - and this has been proven in courts). That's why we always had to sell to buy back then.

And I'm not saying it means he's a great manager. Clubs just don't sign crap managers, not on purpose. Every time they appoint one they do considered that guy to have qualities they need.

That's the issue: a manager who might stagnate or even get worse next season having the spent over £250M.

Makes no sense.

Thats what Im terrified of. It makes no sense to buy the players he's going to want to bring in unless they are on a free or extremely low wages/fee. And that's not what is going to happen. You can't bring in old players with no resale value constantly. Nobody does this. City bring in young players. The RS bring in young players. All the Bs bring in young players.

Bringing in John Stones or Soucek or their ilk...it's really just not smart business at all.

‘Happily dissatisfied’?

So just another way of saying dissatisfied then?

He said it himself ‘we’ve achieved nothing’
All he had to do was refer to the Club’s motto and say that whilst things were slowly improving on and off the pitch, we are still a long way from living up to Nil Satis Nisi Optimum and that’s our overarching ambition…winning more games and trophies is what we should be about.

Very naive from Kinnear and left himself open to disdain and ridicule for that “happily dissatisfied” phrase.

As someone said earlier, it's like he is letting Moyes set the tone and seems wary. How can you have a manager telling the CEO how things are going to roll, only going to end in tears eventually.

Yeah, as @Exeter_Gently has been intimating, they are like ITV - "all in" on Moyes. Certainly for now.

That's fine. It's a choice. Of course, it means they need not speak of ambition again. We're a mid-table club now where these investors prize stability over sporting excellence. That's a legitimate choice...if you are a shareholder. For a fan? I wouldn't be spending too much of my hard-earned on this club. The "compelling" offering isn't all that...compelling, sadly.

I've made my peace with it. Everton is not about competing. It's about not being relegated and collapsing into administration. These are the new measurements of "success".

But let nobody who thinks this is all reasonable come back in nine months or two years or however long it takes lamenting how the club needs a new manager, how we missed a huge chance to reset, and how we're chasing the likes of Brighton or an upwardly-mobile Leeds or whichever club gets its act together off the pitch to surpass us on it.

We'll win nothing with Moyes. But then, when the club isn't serious about winning, that's a marriage made in Heaven.

Let's all look forward now to a "compelling" summer of transfer market activity when Angus will be heard to say: "It's been a difficult market because of the World Cup, but..." and swathes of the fanbase will nod understandingly in agreement.

Nil Satis, Nisi Thirteenth.
