Evening fellow Blues. Andy is my uncle and he leaves behind my aunt, 2 daughters and 2 sons. I dont post often, but felt I had to on this occasion to thank you all for the kind words. Andy was a down to earth, humble fella with a wry Liverpool sense of humour. He never made a fuss. Everton was always his club, although Watford was probably the club at which he is most remembered as their number 1 GK in the 70s. I knew about the European Cup shoot-out but never knew he was in a Toffees team that won 4-0 across the park. Typical of him...never ever made a fuss or felt anybody at Everton owed him anything. He loved Goodison and I am very proud that he was my uncle, but even prouder that my fellow Evertononians acknowledged his contribution. From all of us in his family. Thank you.
Lovely story...
Take care blue.

Really so sad to hear this news.
RIP Andy
I will never forget that Borrusia Monchengladbach game.
Forever a hero, forever in my heart. 💙 💙 💙
Andy Rankin RIP

I went to Germany in 91 for a family holiday. We met some German football fans, I remember when we said we followed Everton. They remembered Andy Rankin. They thought he was a big name.

I was taken the MG game as a kid...what a night ! Andy was always a very capable, well loved deputy for Westie and had his own deputy in Geoff Barnett. Those were the days of a very talented squad all round (can't even bear to make any comparisons to the shambles we now have to endure). Thanks for everything Andy....with condolences to his family at this sad time. Requiescat In Pace.

First of all condolences to you and the rest of the family.
Thank you for informing the site of Andy's passing, he was a more than capable goalkeeper who had the misfortune to have the great character Gordon West ahead of him in the Goodison pecking order.
Always sad to hear of the passing of a true blue.
In todays Andys rankings he gets a ten out of ten from me. RIP Andy
