Yes, but Koeman ended with a season heading towards 30-35 points. AVB ended with a season of 72 points, the two were nothing alike outside of they both got fired.

I'll agree with you on some of that, but if you can't remember all the bad press AVB got due to his 'methods' and man management traits that's up to you, but that is where they do have similarities

Koeman managed his team into losing, the players may not have liked AVB, but they won. He had 72 points, the most Tottenham had had that decade, and even after he was fired, the most Tottenham would have again until last season. His points total at Tottenham was THE best in their premier league history, up until last seasons campaign.

Plus, who cares if he loses the lockerroom in 18 months, unless you see him as the 10 year manager. Im not sure I see him as that, I think we need someone better, absolute upper crust, but with our current situation, we cant attract that. We need someone who can bridge that gap for us so we can get to that point, and who wont cost a fortune to fire. Paying 15 million for Marco Silva means you cant fire him in 18 months. If we have a long term goal to be a CL team, we need to have a long term vision, and right now that means we MUST bring in a manager not just to keep us from relegation, but to show to both players and potential managers alike, that we intend to, and are capable of, being one of the better teams in Europe. We cant just leap there, we must take steps, and I think AVB is a good second step.

And what makes you think a manager who has been in Russia & China for the last 4 years could come back to the premier league and get us out of a relegation fight?

Is there any credible source to this gossip

Yes mate, @chicoazul said he had heard it's happening and @Connor urged @Yorkie89 to sell everything he owned and put money on it. As soon as @MoutsGoat says he's heard the drums playing it will be a 100% certainty.

I've stuck a fiver on it and considering selling my wife and kids so I can lay another tenner on him.

Because he benched both Terry and Lampard mate and think Cole backed those two up as well.

Three England players - one the darling of the brexit Engeeeerrlaaaand Daily Mail readers, who ya reckon the media and pundits where gonna back in that argument lol

Never really read anything about him falling out with Spurs players btw, not even after he left, did read that Pocchetino had effectively a split in half dressing Room during his first season though

BTW same media who attacked AVB also used to ridicule Ranierri in his time at Chelsea, they also slagged Benitez off no end whilst there and probably others i have forgotten about.

Best option for prem experience. Still only young for a manager and has trophies on his CV.

The press love pochettino at spurs. No doubt a good coach but never won anything. Yet the press in england love him. AVB has trophies to his CV. Has a good win ratio at all the clubs hes been at. Hes never took a team down like Silva. Yet is a hated figure?

I would be happy with him. If not him Mancini, Pellegrini or Tuchel for me. No joke appointments like Allardace, Pullis or O'Neil. There time has been and gone in the prem. Fans will not take to them or there style of footy.

You make a lot of good points that I couldn't argue with.

But it wasn't just a media led agenda. It came from people within both clubs who had questioned his methods.

Look, ive said this already, I'd back him if he came in like I would any manager, but there's no smoke without fire, and the 'rumours' of Koeman's ways with players. Niasse being one prime example, ended up being true.

I have the same concerns about AVB. That's it. Not questioning his tactical ability, more so his man management.

He alienated Dawson at Spurs, who was captain and a good pro and player at the time, but couldn't play the high press game.

Invested in loads of lads who came good for in the end for the next manager.

I'm on record on here going way back for having doubts about AVB mate, he's a weird one, I wouldn't compare him to Koeman levels of falling out with players though, AVB to my knowledge anyway has only ever had problems with playing staff at Chelsea and that was because he tried to edge out the dressing room clique of Lampard, terry and presumably Cole in that group too.

Never anything about him in the Russian press - and trust me it's a typical thing for any dissent in a Russian team with a foreign coach to get out into the media fast.

My main doubts about him are more that he doesn't play particularly attractive football, effective - yup, but edge of the seat stuff he definitely isn't - in that way he is a Mourinho light, but i think actually more cautious than even he is.

Dawson is on record saying this mate

The boss has got five top centre-halves at the club and he can only play two,” said Dawson. “He was honest and said he couldn’t guarantee me games. “I respected him for that. “At the start of the season when I wasn’t involved at Newcastle, he spoke to me. “Since then I have respected his decision, there’s no point moaning about it. The boss never once left me out of the group, he’s been great. Everyone’s got opinions and, hopefully, I’ve changed his opinion now
