I'm on record on here going way back for having doubts about AVB mate, he's a weird one, I wouldn't compare him to Koeman levels of falling out with players though, AVB to my knowledge anyway has only ever had problems with playing staff at Chelsea and that was because he tried to edge out the dressing room clique of Lampard, terry and presumably Cole in that group too.

Never anything about him in the Russian press - and trust me it's a typical thing for any dissent in a Russian team with a foreign coach to get out into the media fast.

My main doubts about him are more that he doesn't play particularly attractive football, effective - yup, but edge of the seat stuff he definitely isn't - in that way he is a Mourinho light, but i think actually more cautious than even he is.

Yeah fair enough.

My concern other then what I've already expressed, is the fact that could we rely on a manager who's been managing in Russia & China for last 4 years to get us out of relegation fight?

I have my doubts

The moment we hire a manager specifically to do ajob of surviving mate, we as a club are already done long term in terms of any ambition of moving forwards.

Show me a single club that ever hired one of those types of survival specialists that didn't either ultimately go down or plateau at best as a upper bottom half of the table team.

Koeman managed his team into losing, the players may not have liked AVB, but they won. He had 72 points, the most Tottenham had had that decade, and even after he was fired, the most Tottenham would have again until last season. His points total at Tottenham was THE best in their premier league history, up until last seasons campaign.

Plus, who cares if he loses the lockerroom in 18 months, unless you see him as the 10 year manager. Im not sure I see him as that, I think we need someone better, absolute upper crust, but with our current situation, we cant attract that. We need someone who can bridge that gap for us so we can get to that point, and who wont cost a fortune to fire. Paying 15 million for Marco Silva means you cant fire him in 18 months. If we have a long term goal to be a CL team, we need to have a long term vision, and right now that means we MUST bring in a manager not just to keep us from relegation, but to show to both players and potential managers alike, that we intend to, and are capable of, being one of the better teams in Europe. We cant just leap there, we must take steps, and I think AVB is a good second step.
