AVB would be a fantastic option, especially considering the difficulties we are having.

People forget he is 40 and very much part of an outstanding group of emerging coaches from Portugal. While he's the most left field one his achievements are underrated on the back of struggling at Chelsea when he was 34.

His win record at Porto is 85%. This is incredible. Fergusan here was 63%. Mourinho in his first spell at Chelsea 67%. Pep at Bayern and Barca 72/75. Even Rodgers in one team Scotland is 75% (which is good considering he predecessor was mid 60s). It's an incredible score really.

At Spurs his win ratio is in and around Pochetino (slightly better in fact) and many Spurs fans say he started what Pochetino continued. The fans didn't accept him because he replaced Redknap who had significant support within the media and he had come from Chelsea. If Benitez came here he'd face the same, hostility before he began.

Given his age and approach, I think he could be a really good selection.

He's without a doubt ( out of viable options ) The best I think.

Interesting this rumour is coinciding with the Walsh sacking reports.

AVB signs his own players, he effectively spent his youth learning the ropes as a coach, and mainly scouting. He didn't play, was involved in the backroom of clubs from his late teens and was influenced by Bobby Robson and mainly Mourinho. He is exactly the type of manager who would not want a Walsh dictating players to him.

Just a few of the signings he made in England: Lloris, Courtois, Vertonghen, Lamela, Eriksen, Paulinho, Dembele, Mata, Lukaku (and also Gylfi). Yes there have been some duds like Chiriches and Soldado, but he has a very very high hit rate. I have concerns around him, but recruitment is not one of those.

I imagine that team ^^^ would be considerably better than our at this present time.

and he got sacked for assembling such a good side.

mind boggling

13/14 season they lost by the same score away from home in the CL Qf mate, won the home leg 2-0 - against PSG - manager was Mourinho.

so that is twice in the space of three years they turned around a CL tie when they lost the away leg 3-1.

Your making it sound like a 3-1 away result is almost insurmountable - when frankly it's not and is turned around pretty much every season by one team or another in that competition.

The result allied to other very poor domestic results at around the same time combined to make these the dying days of his tenure, adrift of even the top four, the dressing room unrest and general feeling of things going steadily downhill, had indeed made them look as though it would be lambs to the slaughter.

They had been so poor in the first leg and had been time and time again cut open - it could have been even worse.

I did say 'it looked as though they were headed out' which it very much did.

I've mentioned this a few times now. He got booted from both Chelsea & Spurs due to losing both dressing rooms.

I remember one player interview who said AVB used to watch training sometimes from his balcony at training ground which it overlooked.

There were stories that his arrogance was so bad, that it created so much discontent within both clubs, which is why he was sacked from both positions.

You could argue this was accurate as he appeared to be a very good coach/ tactician. So why didn't it work out?

Unless he's matured/ learnt from this, it's a big no from me. We've just got rid of one of these types of managers, and for good reason

he could watch training from the breakfast table at the tommy frost's for all I care, aslong as we are winning.

spurs sacked him when they were 7th in league having won all 6 Europa league games.

id take tose results over upsetting some primaddona footballers any day of the week.

Ridiculous statement considering one of the main reasons we are in this mess is down to how Koeman managed the team. Particularly his arrogance around the club & treatment of players.

Spurs were stuffed 6-0 by City, then a few weeks later 5-0 to them lot over the park.

Smacks of players downing tools. Why? If he was such a top coach?!

spurs were still 7th in league. not like Koemans terrible squad at 17th.

bit of a difference
