Horses for courses. He will have more time against Southampton and his link up play will be better for it. Unless you advocate playing Davies or Sigurdsson from the start? Which I don't. Granted Gylfi looked better from the off today I think keeping him as a super sub is going to be more beneficial to us. You could say Carlo left it too long before making the change today during an ineffectual performance by Gomes.

Make no mistake the boss sees Allan, Doucoure and Gomes as our midfield so there is no point getting on his back, we got to hope this was a blip. We also have to respect them lot for making it difficult. They would have walloped us in previous years playing at that level.

Think Siggy has done enough to Warren a chance. Gomes was awful today. I will roll with whatever Carlitos decides but Gomes left us a man short today

Gylfi probably deserves a start, Gomes has more bad games than good games which isn't great.

I think with one of Iwobi/ Bernard/ Gordon coming in for the next three matches, I'd be replacing an out-of-sorts Gomes with Sigurdsson to make up somewhat for the loss of goal threat and creativity that Richarlison provides.

He's been a problem for awhile it is just that other players have managed to be worse at the end of last year. It is time to try other solutions after today. "He keeps the ball" isn't good enough reason to play a player anyway, I mean Tom Cleverley kept the ball, and he isn't giving us anything else. Also I said earlier and I'll repeat now, he's the worst midfielder in the league when the other team has the ball.

He also gives fouls away around the edge of the box, if your going to foul the player anyway do it away from our box

I thought he was poor today and effected us massively in the first half. The issue for me is Doucoure, he should be getting involved more higher up the pitch. We are missing his run in to the box, because he is covering the right hand side for James, and Allan isn’t get much help

Options, maybe Delph on the left, so that means Allan can get over to cover Doucoure when he goes forward and Delph can sit as well. Or play Davies right( not sure about this) and move Doucoure to the left. I think that’s why Gbamin will be massive, as that will mean Allan moving to the right, where he’s played a lot for Napoli and Doucoure can move to the left and join in more down that side.

I think it looks likely we´ll need a new number 8 for this team to kick on. It´s getting to the point with Gomes where I can´t ever see him being the consistent presence we need in there. Delph/Gbamin aren´t creative enough to play that role.

Gbamin by all accounts is a very good passer, it’s only what I’ve read not seen it myself

Haha I know, the man, the myth. Easy to forget he actually plays for us. Would be a great bonus if he comes back and can actually get into the team. Though I think it´s a case of except the worst and hope for the best.
