He was largely the best player against Palace before he went off then pretty bad against the RS, It's just Gomes in general he's up and down with no consistency which is why Barca sold him, If he can have more good than bad games it's money well spent because he is such a good player.

Relax, he wasn't great vs RS but we know he's not as mobile and has limitations in that department especially since the injury. But he keeps the ball well when he's on song and moves the ball around.

We still need another box to box midlfielder both athleticism who has some creativity too and it'll cost. But right now I reckon we have to accept Gomes may be a bit hit and miss especially vs the top 6 sides but I have faith he'll improve, imo.

He was that bad last time out that I reckon he should be dropped. I’d rather siggy in his place especially against a team we should be able to dominate possession against

I agree generally, but I think in this system he can actually get away without being particularly involved at either end of the pitch, and just being tasked with progressing the ball from one to the other and setting a tempo. The issue is to have that as your role you need to be virtually flawless at it, or you’re not contributing enough. He’s not been flawless very often recently.

Understood. Going forward I'll start every sentence with "In my opinion".. please can the rules for GOT be amended to make this clear that when we are speaking we are only talking from our viewpoint and not fact based evidence.. will clear up so much on the forum going forward.
Back on topic. In my opinion Gomes had one of his better games on Saturday.

Never understand how a player in their 20's can be so slow.

I don't think any fans doubt he has the ability,seems to me to be struggling with his fitness.

He's better when we have more possession in a game, not as good without. There's no mystery here, he isn't a hard tackling midfielder who wins possession. Think he's been largely v good this season

He was injured in the lead up to this and missed the last game. None of us know how much training he did before this match. Same with Allan.

Just not gifted with electrifying pace... Like mentioned he will be found out against other teams who fighting for top 4 for the pace... Not sure he has the footballing mind to find the space either. However, he did have the mind to crack in shot which was near enough... Still it's early season, would not right him off just yet considering his injury, stop season start then new season, now with entire new midfield round him. Five league games in, too early for me as a swerve!

Unfortunately, I don't feel he's quite cutting it at the moment particularly when compared to the incoming midfield trio. However, it's still early in the season and we are top so I'd persevere for another couple of games. I'd like to see Gordon get some minutes as he seemed to provide a bit more drive in the position. Gordon, Siggi, Bernard - suddenly we have options on that side of the pitch.
