2020/21 Andre Gomes

Think he's doing well without being spectacular, keeps the ball moving nicely, he's not last line of defence from midfield any more thankfully. He's been out for a long time, he's not match fit and he's been doing a decent job.

Still needs to get back to his sensual, midfield bullying ways. 1st Derby Gomes has a permanent place in this midfield, current one doesn't.

It seems to me we have four players in central midfield as JR spends more time in the middle than wide on the right. He is just so good there that he should be starting there in every game.
The addition of real pace on the right would make us even more difficult to play against and at present I think the team looks a little unbalanced.

Andre Gomes is not playing badly but he doesn't seem to be influencing the team or games, it just seems to me that he is doing what the other midfielders are also doing.
I would like to see more pace on the right and JR moved more centrally.

I think he's been doing a quietly efficient job. We need to let Godriguez do whatever the eff he wants in whatever part of the pitch he wants to do it in, Gomes can accommodate that

Think people are being harsh on him. It is true that Doucoure and Allan have been better so far, but give the lad time. Wasn't long ago he had a near career ending injury.

All about a functioning midfield unit. He's part of that currently. It's not all about Roy of the Rovers heroics

Agreed I think against teams like that there is no need to have gomes in a 3. We should just have doucore and Allan with James as a 10 dictating the attacks, with Gordon on the other wing. Against "better" teams I don't mind having gomes to control the midfiled more and control the game like against spurs

If we had the funds I would still get another midfield enforcer (Soumare) another box to box midfielder who incredibly strong and has a great range of passing. Gomes will miss games and still needs recuperation really. We would truly have a midfield to be reckoned with. Only a matter if time toll Arsenal go for Soumare though - we've been loosely linked before so hope we get in there.

Without disagreeing about how ideally we could still strengthen the midfield, there’s far more important positions in the team that need strengthening.
