If Gomes wasnt good looking he wouldnt be a fan favourite - Siggurdsson came on who I've slated a lot last season and literally was pinging balls into the box / creating chances.

Gomes job in the midfield as far as im aware is to provide creativity - 95% of his passes are sideways and back.

Not saying he's a big problem by any means but long term he's one of the positions that we could certainly strengthen in.

So what you’re saying is that the forum is predominately populated by closet homosexuals ?

Where do I sign up ?

I know people have mentioned the Liverpool midfield 3 and what they do and offer from a creating point of view.

Their system is for the full backs to attack at will and also let the wide forwards stay up the pitch and not track full backs, or at least not that often.

Wjynaldum and Henderson play right and left of Fabinho and cover the full backs, both run all day, are aggressive and defensively switched on, Gomes Couldn’t survive in their system.

Will be interesting to see how Thiago fits in

My view for what it’s worth...
He kept the ball well and keeps the ball moving well, doesn’t matter if it’s side ways or back,, he keeps the game flowing,, football is about keeping the ball and keeping the ball moving forward. If we have the ball they don’t... Let Allan be the dog in midfield let James pull the strings let Doucoure be the box to box bulldog and Gomez keeps it all moving

See where I put huge question mark, all the best

Its like people are already writing Gbamin off. Obviously he has a long way to come after two bad injuries but im hopeful the lad can push on as he could be a good player for us.

He wouldnt suit the "creative" midfielder role but neither does Gomes - both are more possession based players however the advantage Gbamin has is he is more box to box in terms of putting in a tackle.

Maybe Gbamin will end up competing with Doucoure rather than Gomes but regardless I think thats one of 4 positions that we could realistically upgrade in:

Gomes
Mina
Coleman
Pickford

He may be a bit of a water-carrier but he's still damnably good-looking. And now with film star James on the strength even the most hairy-arsed defenders will be blushing to the soles of their tackety boots as they line up in the box.

Hurrah!!!

Issue is Gomes doesn’t cover Doucoure if he wants to get forward.. this is limiting his full potential and the box to box role he can play. It’s shouldn’t stop him mind you with Allen the Destroyer making up for it.

At this stage I wouldn’t want to see James take that Gomes role either as he needs to be in and around the box.. I would like to see Siggy given a chance. It’s incredibly unpopular opinion but even a 70% Siggy delivers more than Gomes in terms of creation . Can only imagine if Siggy just let the ball move on as his role was to keep the flow..Would be lambasted.

We won 5-2 and the midfield were a huge part of that. The midfield is a unit and he was and is a big part of the blend in the middle which is making us so exciting.

Some of you are proper weird still having to spurt pure toxic vitriol at a bloke who played well when we’ve won 5-2 instead of just enjoying things.

Thought he was poor. Lost ball for 1st, stupid foul for 2nd. If Carlo is going to switch between 433 and 4231, Sigurdsson might be better option until Gomes finds his form.

I'd sell Sigurdsson tomorrow, but can see bit of a spark since new signings have come in.
Also it was Allan who fouled for the second! Although Gomes did lose the ball leading up to it.
