He annoyed me for their first goal. Basically turned away from the play when the ball was 5 yards away from him. No idea what he was thinking there.

Other than that though I thought he was fine. If he is one of our worst starting 11 players then we are not doing too badly.

I honestly dont get what people think Gomes brings to the team - if FFP wasn't around he would be one of the positions Carlo would upgrade on and I imagine next season he will.

He still barely passes forward, cant tackle he just doesn't get caught out now we have legs around him.

Gbamin before he joined was someone who was billed as box to box who could hit a ball forward but also get around the park and tackle - IF he comes back the same player and that is an IF I cant see him being benched for Gomes.

I agree to a point , Huge question marks over Gbamin, but Gomes doesn’t offer enough to be a long term fit in our 3 man midfield

No more what Liverpool do - 3 galoots in the middle who win the ball for the front 3 for them and the fullbacks to do the rest.

actually I like the idea. I’m Still not sold on what Gomes contributes and Doucoure is a real box to box player who can contribute in all three thirds of the pitch. So makes sense to me. I get Gomes is nice in the middle third but zero in the defensive third and marginal in the offensive third..so...

it’s a massive “if” about Gbamin. I have remote hope he can come back from these injuries tbh

But what does he offer in a 3? Doucoure aggressive box to box and will get a few goals. Allan a top class midfielder, especially from defensive point of view

If Gomes wasnt good looking he wouldnt be a fan favourite - Siggurdsson came on who I've slated a lot last season and literally was pinging balls into the box / creating chances.

Gomes job in the midfield as far as im aware is to provide creativity - 95% of his passes are sideways and back.

Not saying he's a big problem by any means but long term he's one of the positions that we could certainly strengthen in.
