Simple question, with 2 choices to make it more realistic.

Today was proof, if anyone still needed it, of just how far away the side currently is.

I hope within two years, Carlo has a credible team that's in the conversation for domestic honours and within 4 years, with suitable support from transfers, CL football is secured.

That's a reasonable hope given his stature, but theres three other first rate managers in the league and three more sides with advantages in resources or current squads. So getting into that mix is the main goal, the final hurdle may need some luck or mistakes from the sides ahead of us.

I expect him to single handedly rebuild our squad, get rid of the dead wood and bring in real quality.

After he has done that in his first transfer window, I expect him to single handedly build our new stadium before the summer window opens.

Anything less would be a failure in my eyes.

I'm not sure what to expect, and I'm wary of expecting much, given the spate of huge letdowns the last few seasons have brought.

What I hope for is that Ancelotti will at the minimum complete his full 4 1/2 year contract.

If he does that, it should mean that stability has been restored and stability with progression.

By the end of next season, if we haven't qualified for at least the Europa League, and I wouldn't "expect" more, then that would be a big disappointment.

It would actually also be nice to progress in Europe if we qualified given the comparative strength of the PL compared to other leagues.

Beyond that if we could emulate Spurs and gatecrash the elite band of clubs and find a way to more or less stay there - I would be very happy indeed.

So, I guess, yes it means Europe every season with a reformed squad and a realistic tilt at Champions League qualification sometime before his contract is due to end - I don't know how long that would realistically be expected to take, maybe at least two if not three full seasons.

I would take any success but for me it has to be built on the premise of sustainability and stability, if we manage to crawl upwards and reach the elite then we have to be there to stay without it being a random flash in the pan.

Ancelotti has to rebuild almost eveything at the club because the mindset and approach is entirely geared towards mediocrity.

I agree with a lot of this. We need someone at the helm, who is going to ben the job for a period of time and allow other changes to happen around them. Be that Brands and the academy, buying in younger players to develop, the ground stuff and at board level.

It's difficult really manage and maintain squad when you keep going through managers.

You didn't have any options for our expectations for Everton to finish his career in five seasons.

Or my favourite - have a moderately good season in order to lift the expectations of all and then slowly become total pony and end with a being fired before appointing someone else the club can crush.

Itls a joke competition mate.

I cant even remember United winning it a few years back...probably because they knew it was a FIFA obligation and about as competitive as a friendly.

It wouldn’t be a joke because it would mean we had won the Champions League
i would settle for that
