American Food

You can't have that.

Lemon flavored custards, puddings and pies have been enjoyed since Medieval times, but meringue was perfected in the 17th century. Lemon meringue pie, as it is known today, is a 19th-century product. The earliest recorded recipe was attributed to Alexander Frehse, a Swiss baker from Romandie.

Next you'll be claiming hot dogs and burgers

America has been around since the 19th century! How do you know this Swiss swindler didn't steal this recipe on holiday?

Look goods, but embarrassed to say I've never seen them.
Kind of like southern fried naan. Really. The ones I was used to were thinner, and used white corn meal, the really fine ground Alabama kind.

When I used to take my elder relatives to eat Indian food, I'd explain naan as Indian hoecake, and they understood immediately. Our type was not that different, really.

They enjoy spicy food, but didn't know how to get around an Indian menu. It was a lot of fun to do, and people tell you more of what you really want to know when they're sweating while they eat.
