Ambition.

Mourinho is never coming here, his next job in the PL will be in London, probably Arsenal down the line or 3rd time at Chelsea.

And he's desperately wanting another crack at Real Madrid.

He was living in a hotel for his entire duration at United and his wife refused refused to move North as she loves London living to much.

Plus he said in an interview that was reported heavily after he was linked with the Newcastle job. Jose Mourinho looks unlikely to become the next Newcastle manager after revealing he will not join a club who settle for ‘seventh, eighth or ninth’.

In an interview recorded before Benitez’s departure was announced, Mourinho told The Coaches’ Voice: “The only thing that I know is what I don’t want: I am quite pathological in the sense of I have to play to win.

“Then, if I don’t win, then that’s my problem and the players and the club and the structure but I need a project where the feeling is I play to win.
“If somebody gives me a wonderful 10-year contract and the objective of the team is to stay in the first half of the table and if you finish seventh, eighth or ninth, it’s perfect, then that’s not for me. That’s my nature. “My next (goal) is to fight to win”.

I don't understand the shouts for Mourinho, this is a manager who's never for the long haul, and he wants a big budget at the clubs he's at which is hard with our turnover in the age of FFP and huge commercial deals, he isn't a Klopp or Poch who are happy to build slowly and stamp their authority and philosophy.

....I have to admit to never having a clue about managerial appointments, I do think it’s lots to do with right person, right time, right place. I always thought a managers record in the transfer market was a key competency for a club like ours, but the acquisition of a DoF shits the emphasis more on coaching and man-management.

I can’t criticise the club for not being ambitious when I wouldn’t have a clue myself about the correct appointment.

You can mate, we are all entitled to express at least reasonable criticism as fans and cannot be expected to have the knowledge and/or access to information that highly-paid individuals at the club have.

I think our manager process is flawed, but Brands "should" deal with that next time we need to make an appointment, it won't guarantee that the right one is made but if nothing else it should be thorough and properly thought-out. That's what I would expect of him as a minimum.

We have one of the best up and coming managers in the world

We have a board with ambition that is second to none and will not under any circumstances settle for second best

We have players who know how to win on the field and will die for the cause

We have a director of football who knows exactly what players is needed to compete at the upper echelons of the sport and goes out and gets them without leaving no stone unturned

We have a fan base that demands that the encumbants never ever drop the ball on the world class standards that this great club is built on and are used to the highest standards of football

We are in safe hands guys, I don't know what some people are complaining for

We have a style of play and tactical flexibility very similar to a period of time when most fans became disillusioned with the club.

If he wears brown shoes, there will be a bobby brown shoes-o-meter created.

...I agree that we’ve failed to appoint the wrong person, I agree that out recruitment process might be flawed. I agree we can criticise the club for that, but I wouldn’t equate that to a lack of ambition. I honestly have no idea who we should go after, the club haven’t got it right thus far.

...Manchester City, Liverpool and Spurs went through a range of managers before appointing the right one. It is about appointing the right manager (and DoF), but that is a really difficult challenge.
Y, and this is where the patience should be directed.
These extremes of either we have to keep the faith in Silva as saviour or Moshiri, Brands and the whole shower are stripping us of pur will to live.
Rather, the club tries out a manager. He's either genuine top 4 or not. Takes up to a couple of seasons to make absolutely sure he's not. No drama. Next one please.

I agree with the principle but I certainly don't agree that it's just the manager. You say we're being ambitious signing players but we're not really are we? We're spending more money, but we're signing the same type of player we always were, just more of them.

Iwobi and Delph, top 6 players that are no longer wanted, Gomes a player who's lost his way and did pretty well on loan for us without really tearing up any trees, Sidibe a loan for a player that his club no longer wants and was being hawked around the league, Gbamin a player who may well turn out to be very good but wasn't exactly coveted, and Lossl a free transfer from a relegated club. All of those are in the same bracket that we were signing 10 years ago. Kean is the only signing we made this summer that hints at ambition, and that's a long term signing rather than one supposed to catapult us into the elite. We didn't sign or replace Zouma, and lost Gana who was arguably our best/most important player. You'd be very hard pressed to say that this years squad is better than last years, and that squad came 8th. I don't see where the ambition is there.

Silva is a midtable manager managing midtable players, that's why we're midtable.

There's a lot in that. The reality is, Iwobi, a lad who Arsenal fans were delighted to see the back of is one of our best players. And Arsenal are miles behind the top 2 in the league as well. We had similar with Walcott when he arrived, he was a cut above what we had at the time (Aaron Lennon) though he quickly faded.

It's a similar story with Gomes, Mina, Zouma etc. I am not trying to pour cold water on things, but we are taking caste offs and trying to polish them up. I think it's the right approach, but it will take time and it will be an inconsistent process.

As for Silva, I would say he is an extremely talented young manager. If you look at managers his age or below, he ranks very high. However he is inexperienced at PL level and that shows a little bit. There's no doubt he does things very well but there are other holes in his management. It's an interesting question in how long do we give him, alongside the team to do well.

If we finish in the top half this season I wouldn't advocate sacking him, thats kind of my bar. It might sound too pessimistic, but last season we finished 8th, we've spent net around 15 million pounds, and reduced the wage bill by around 10%. If we can do that without going backwards and maintain solidify ourselves under a young manager that will be enough for me at this stage.

Longer term his job is to begin to get more consistency from many of the younger players. It's a gamble for us, but again probably the right gamble.

...oh dear, thanks Frank.
Reminds me of a report I read some time ago about a game in a local newspaper.

The reporter stated that a goal was scored because the keeper failed to hold a good shot, unfortunately because of a typo the o was replaced with the letter i.
