Ambition.

The ambitious intention is there but very poor decision making when it comes to actually implementing it. They will spend (and waste) astronomical amounts of money on players and divorces but when it comes to the actual Managers to carry out the ambition, it has continually been unproven (in this league) and basically bargain basement Managers none of whom would ever get near a top 6 club. If top 6 is the ambition then the Managerial appointment has to be the biggest priority and if they keep going for cheaper unproven risks, then so be it but it could actually take decades before we get anywhere unless we get lucky like Spurs did.

Credit where credit is due, the club recruited well during Brand's first summer.

However, we have since returned to ignoring January transfer windows because they involve a bit of hard work, and finishing the summer transfer window without acquiring essential squad improvements, such as that of a centre back, much like Koeman and Walsh did with the centre forward position in summer 2017. We aren't hoing to get anywhere if we carry on like that.

Add a crap manager into the mix and we're on the road to nowhere.
I think our recruitment has been quite good.

Several times in recent years I have had the feeling that we were beginning to show the ambition that was needed to get us challenging for a top six or even a top four position in the league. The arrival of Farhad Moshiri has undoubtedly taken us forward and the development of the new ground( although smaller than hoped for) is certainly a welcome development.

We have spent a lot of money on player signings and taken in a lot of money from players sales and at the moment I am not sure of the exact quality within the squad going forward although there are several young talented players there.

However, at the moment when I look at Everton I cannot help but feel we are a midtable club and that is where we will stay for the foreseeable future.

When you look at the clubs that seem to be dominating the league and Europe also there seems to be one common factor...… the manager.

These clubs first brought in the manager they wanted and then let them build their squad(Guardiola, Klopp, Pochettino) whereas we seem to have ambition when signing players but not when appointing managers.

At present I fear we are a mid table club with a mid table manager who has a top six club budget.

I wonder what others would think is needed for us to move to a position where we can be a top four/six club again.

Aw ooh, looks like we have ourselves a Lex Luther Bloo on our hands.

Lanolin's post hits the nail on the head. For the most part, we are attracting players of the same quality that Moyes was doing. In fact, it could be argued that they are of lower quality than many of Moyes buys.

We are also continuing to finish transfer windows having failed to make essential improvements in important areas of the park, this time we neglected centre back in the same way Koeman and Walsh neglected centre forward in Summer 2017. We still have a crap manager.

I hope we act like a big club in January and actually use it as an opportunity to improve, and don't just sack it off because it involves some hard work.

we only seem to be able to attract mediocre players.

the manager isn't a big enough pull to bring in the top talent .

IF Mourinho was to turn up here , he would be able to bring in the type of calibre of players that would move us up the table.

we aren't going to be breaking the top6 with mediocre marco with his horrendous track record of results and inparticular set piece and goals conceded stats that's for sure

Mourinho couldnt attract top tier players at United, even with the ability to offer them 400k a week in wages.

He would have ZERO chance of getting any good player to join Everton.

united were going for top tier players... who were also getting offers from the likes of real madrid etc etc..

we obv don't need that higher calibre of player … but I bet Mourihno could attract better players than deplh and sidibe

Yeah United went for top tier players and got jogged on for every single 1.

You mean Premier League winner Delph and World cup winner Sidibe?

The players arent the problem, the tactics and the manager are.

are you saying Morinho wouldn't be able to get us a better profile of player than Silva / Brands

we all know that Mourinho still has huge pull... players will want to play for him

plus hes been at that many top clubs he know all about there players , reserves, the yoots … Christ his portfolio on plyaers would be endless

Maybe a mixture of all 3 Goat, players, manager and tactics.

Either way we csn all agree it's bloody miserable supporting Everton.

I'll be going tomorrow though to roar/boo the lads on ;)

Not many players want to work with Mourinho.

They do want to join the teams hes at, cos normally they are CL teams who challenge for titles, unlike United and Everton.

He struggled hard at United, players want to play in the CL, its a myth that players join clubs for managers, managers last 6-18months, players stay at clubs for 2-3 years.

Look for me Mourinho is the best manager in world football, but hes not God, he cant make bad teams good.

Nar for me we have very talented players, ive seen them all at their best and they are very good players.

The tactics are pitiful, their motivation is an utter joke, that comes from the manager for me, but its early days yet, hopefully its just a blip and we can get through this and start showing some form.

In the managers defence we have some key injuries and new players bedding in, im not happy at all with Silva, but even defeat tomorrow wont want him sacked. But the pressure will certainly be on.

Ive got a wedding to go to tomorrow, im gutted, I only agreed to go cos the game was on a Sunday at first, now the missus wont let me swerve it, got now tv on my phone all ready! Got a feeling we win tomorrow, but I think we will win every game.

They certainly did and it took them some time to get it right but even then I think they showed more ambition in their choices, it was just the choices were not right at that time.
I was not in favour of the appointment of Marco Silva purely because of his history in management which is average at best. I was happy to support when he was appointed and while he is Everton manager I will keep hoping that he can get the team to recover and get us to shoot up the league.

But, in all honesty after watching us play this season I just cannot see that happening.
Sitting in the stand last Saturday watching us not having a clue how to play against a modest Sheff. Utd side was a most disappointing day not only because of the result but mostly because of the performance.

....I have to admit to never having a clue about managerial appointments, I do think it’s lots to do with right person, right time, right place. I always thought a managers record in the transfer market was a key competency for a club like ours, but the acquisition of a DoF shifts the emphasis more on coaching and man-management.

I can’t criticise the club for not being ambitious when I wouldn’t have a clue myself about the correct appointment.
