Allardyce On Left Backs

are you sniffing cement?

do you remember spurs 1st goal? the right back aurier or whatever he's called had space to land a ryan air flight down the right because cuco the clown left that much space open

not saying Kenny is world class or anything but I'd rather have Kenny playing at left back with a fridge freezer strapped to his back than cuco the clown

people don't over egg how bad he is, he is just that bad

2 things.

1. Breathe.

2. I suggest you watch that goal again. Jagielka had one of the biggest brain farts he's ever had in a blue shirt and decided to walk right into midfield following Harry Kane who was not a present threat. Martina had to fill in to cover his centre back whilst his centre back went walkies in case someone like Alli drove into the unmarked space. It was up to Sigurdsson at that point to follow Aurier, but the fault started with Jagielka.

Now clearly you've lost your marbles, but I will concede that it's not possible to overstate how bad Martina is. Now, my post which in your frothing rage at our beleaguered left back clearly went straight over your head, was a response to a different poster who claimed that Kenny wasn't targeted as heavily as Kenny was. I provided 3 of our more recent fixtures as evidence that not only is Kenny targeted by opponents, in some matches clubs target him more than they do Martina who many see (including myself) as the far inferior player.

It is my belief that neither of our current fullbacks are up to the standard we need, one of them (Martina) is a complete dud. The other, Kenny, isn't ready in my opinion but whilst our options are so terrible I would play Kenny at left back and Holgate at right back until Coleman is ready.

Hope this clears that up.

I don't think this has ever really been the case from watching him since England U17's.

Since he came into the first team mate I've always thought he has looked more like a modern day full back who's game was all about getting forward. Lately he's looked suspect and under the microscope more defensively because IMO he's been instructed too not be as offensive.

Reported today he’s back in training and likely to feature for the under 23’s in the coming weeks to gain match fitness.
He is such an inconsistent player though, some days he looks alright and others he is terrible. I mean he will probably be better than Martina, but in all honesty you can't fix a flood with a band-aid, we need an actual left back who is fit for that position.

In the olden days, being a left back was a cinch. Clobber the winger, take a throw in, defend a post at corners basically covered it.

Now a days, its the equivalent of piloting a space shuttle it seems.

He’s prone to the occasional brain fart I agree, but that’s less of a concern at left back than Centre half. Think he’d do ok at left back in the short term tbh.
