thought liverpool pressed him and he couldnt cope with it at times, it felt today that Southampton did the same and he contributed absolutely nothing

Worrying, but early days...

You´re right with this. Really struggled in the last two games against two mobile midfields. Hopefully finds his form over the coming weeks. Think he´d benefit from not feeling like he has to do everything. Looks to be taking too much on.

yeah - I could be wrong, but I think he is conscious of the RB being so exposed because of James and is getting stuck between the two and then offering nothing as a result

In a game like last weekend, we probably need one more workhorse or holding mid to pair with Allan and just allow Doucore to play at the head of a midfield 3. Normally Richarlison would fill that role on the wings, but he is banned. As good as James is, he won’t be able to pick up the slack and neither will Iwobi/Sigurdsson/Bernard/Gordon/Andre.

Going from Serie A to the Premier League seems to be one of the more difficult transitions to make, although I do think that he managed to play his way into the Liverpool game and ended up doing OK in the second half. Also, it would have been better had he not been rushed back from what looked to be quite a bad injury at the time, but unfortunately the squad is paper-thin in terms of quality.

Another issue is that he's being played into trouble a lot, especially now that there's no out-ball up top. The midfield has a decent balance to it when all are fit and on form, but Doucoure isn't the slickest in possession and Sigurdsson doesn't know what he's doing in there, so they're going backwards to Allan because they can't just knock one down the line for Richarlison to chase. As a result, he's getting swarmed.

I hope that Gomes is back in at Newcastle. I know he chews the ball too much when he's not playing well, but he's always willing to receive under pressure and his short passing is sharper than Sigurdsson, Davies or Delph's.

Was trying to do q bit too much by himself, continually misses runners from midfield into the box though. Delph helped him, second half.
While Coleman is out a think Delph should be in the midfield 3. Will over better protection on the right hand side. Think it was obvious on Sunday that he was stuck between pressing high, and dropping back to cover Godfrey and it just Left to much space in the middle.

Southampton didn't give him any space and generally stopped us playing through midfield. We had to start moves from wide where we were weakest, it was good from them to be fair.
