He was outstanding. So strong on the ball, uses his body so well to shield the ball. We have been lacking this type of players for years. Napoli’s loss very much our gain.

Love him. First half thought he looked a bit off but West Brom were doing a brilliant job of closing us down and giving us little time on the ball. When the game was settled a bit and WBA tired he took control.

He's like a Peter Reid/Roy Keane hybrid.
The way he sees the game, shields the ball, organises everything around him, picks a pass, all of it. Looks the complete midfielder.

My only criticism is that he seemed to try and go into very advanced forward positions in the first 20 minutes which I think contributed to the counter attack for their first goal

Agree, but what we really needed was that terrier to break up play and protect the defence, we had absolutely nothing resembling that last season with Davies, Gomes and Gylfi. Allan is everywhere.

He is definitely tidier on the ball than Gana and plays it forward a lot more too.

This may have been Carlo's tactics as I doubt Allan would stray that high up without instructions. Might be wrong though.
