Alan Smith.

Ah well good point there Vim.

I meant that if everyone is healthy, he wouldn't get a look in.

But I agree that Faddy is a better player.

Surely Owen could be added to that list. Don't get me wrong, little Michael is irritating. However, he's a great goalscorer when he's firing on all cylinders.

And when was the last time he fired on all cylinders? It's like saying we should go out and buy chubby Ronaldo. Used to be the best striker in the world on his day.....

Wouldn't take him, I haven't seen AS play well for about 3 years.

Owen is way too much money. Besides he already turned us down when Moyes wanted him a couple years ago, let him rot as a barcode.

Duff looks washed up.

Milner looks good, but NUFC isn't that stupid they'd sell him.

Crocked!

No thank you to Alan Smith.

He never recaptured the form he had at Leeds. As soon as Man U could replace him they did. Injury prone and was never the same since the leg break at R/S game.

This is the last type of signing we need. I.e. Had the talent and way past his best looking for his last lucrative contract where he would not deliver.

We need to move away from this type of signing and get bona fide players at their peak. If we can?.........
.

I hear what your saying but for me, over my cold dead hands will I see Smith stain our jersey.

I wouldnt buy anyone from the Geordies bar Gazza in his prime.

His Optimus Prime at that.

Is'nt this what moyes is good at. Takeing players that have lost their way, An getting them playing again (arteta, pienaar, carsley when he took over etc).

Pearsonaly i'd like to see a better class of player come in, but moyes has been in for him before. You never know. We need depth in our squad badly, could he fit the bill??

Im not saying i really want him, just putting this idea out their.

If he redescoved any sort of form, he could be a good player again.

Anyway don't bite my head off please.....:D:D

Yeah no I would have bought him from Man U, and theres evidence of that Ive written here.

But like Parker, Emre, and Smith and the others players who would choose them over us Id say no thanks.

I am going to go against the flow on this one and say i wouldnt mind seeing him sign for us mainly for two reasons.

The lad definitely has talent and has proven it at the highest level of leauge football, i think he has lost wis way a bit biuncing around the franchises of Man U and the Barcodes, i think the Everton atmosphere would do wonders for him and Moyes's coaching would allow him to be the player we all thought he would be. Remember it was'nt long ago a lot of people were slating Kenwright here for bidding 7.5mill for Smith saying we were being unrealistic.

Secondly one thing that has become apparent to me as the season has ended and injuries have taken there toll is that what we have made up for in the skill and techniuqe dept this season we have lossed in, grittyness, doggidness and tenacity, this has been specifically appaent when cahill has been missing from the team, Smith has always been tenacious and willing to have a go untill the last.

I think he could be a usefull addition just as Jags has proved to be but like Jags i wouldnt pay over 4.5 mill for him!

Neville has played at the highest level like Smith and it still doesn't mean he's good enough. The thing with Smith was his talent was always over hyped. His record as a striker was poor and once converted into a midfielder showed time and time again that he just couldn't hack it.

I like tenacity and aggression but it has to be used properly. The likes of James Vaughan and Tim Cahill do use it in the right way whereas Smith doesn't. He gives the most fouls away in the Premier League and has an awful disciplinary record.

I think we should be looking past squad players. We should be buying players who are going to make the likes of Carsley, Neville, Osman and Johnson squad players and be guaranteed a place in the team. Smith won't do that.

We should be thinking much bigger than Alan Smith.

We need midfielders with the confidence to hold the ball and quickly link play to Yak, Vaughan and AJ. Otherwise what's the point in having all that pace up front right?

I don't think Smith has got such ability.. though interestingly the all new Keegan barcodes are learning to use Gerami and Barton in that way and feeding Owen and Martins to some effect. Last time Owen fired on all four?.. six goals in his last seven isn't bad right?

Not so long ago they were all sinking under BigSams 'lump it up front' super football technology.

There is life beyond hoofball.
