Aiming for the Champions League? Damn Right!

Because it means they have less to invest for an immediate return

The people who bought City had to spend much more than any potential investor in Everton would have to spend to get the same level of success

Nope. City of Manchester Stadium was in place; Goodison Park is like a rope around our necks in terms of investment sadly.

That, and Kenwrong.

if only we moved to Kirkby
kings dock is the one that got away, kenwright will forever be remembered for that with me

It's not spin, it's context.

Do you expect Martinez to get Everton CL football?

I do, if we can achieve 6th under the worst manager to manage any club, anywhere... ever, imagine what an average manager will achieve.

We've cultivated an image of 'punching above our weight' for a long time now. It's the first thing ALL the pundits say when Everton are mentioned. It's no wonder no investor is interested when you openly admit that the only way is down. Perception is important. Why would an investor buy into a business which is openly telling people it is already over achieving?

The medium term goal has to be striving for champions league.

agreed!

You expect CL football.

Says it all really.

Bare minumum.. You not been reading this place of late? Its been proven, there is literally nothing Moyes did right and we finished 7th.. It should be pretty straightforwards to get much higher by default.

<note: this and the previous post may contain sarcasm>

looking back on last season after a break I can only think of two games that you would have come away surprised we had won. means things to work on, and a bit of luck would help, but definitely indicates a club that can make the top 4. Spurs, Arsenal and Liverpool will spend more money but they have not proved themselves great in the transfer market and players have to settle. being ready for what happens when we finish fourth is the key thing, we won't suddenly transform into a rich club so that's when expectations need to be controlled so we can build and make sure we are regularly up around the top 4

Some nonsense in this thread like. Moyes spoke all season about trying to get into the Champions League. In January he said that the club needed to show the players just how serious they were about cracking the top 4. The club signed a teenage full back from Barnsley. Said it all for me. It has never been Moyes who lacked ambition, it was, and remains to be the board.
If people think we are going to crack the top 4 any time soon then they are in for a rude awakening.

Spot on this.

Maybe Heitinga could become a more important part of the team

only if he could run - what happened to him last season did he pick up a bad injury playing internationally for Holland at the Euro cup? I had him down at fault for 7 goals looked a bit better towards the end but Duffy should have played he was appaling - wants to leave high earner lets sell him asasp! if Martinez can add to the squad two class players two cheaper players gets competition then yes why not a higher league place we could have made the top four this season down to bad luck, & trying to defend 1-0 leads, and far to many draws!
