Aiden McGeady

Lennon had a first few good games on loan then showed how limited he is...as we are seeing now. A waste of money and one level above mcgeady...weird signing.

That's all true at least for the minority of occasions. For the majority of the time he's absolutely woeful: lots of step overs but no end product at all.

Lennon is a strange one as well. As you mention he seems to reinvigorate teams and his work-rate is unquestionable, especially tracking back.

However, there are still doubts in my mind regarding what he offers in terms of going forward. How often does he cross? Beat a man?

I'd much rather have Aaron here rather than Geeds and he works effectively against certain opposition, but he can in some aspecrs be limiting.

We wouldnt need to replace him, we currently have far too many wingers as it is.

I don't really understand the hate on McGeady to be honest. I know he's very infuriating as he's obviously talented but as a squad player to cover for injuries/suspensions? I'm happy enough with him. He cost us nothing except wages but he can't be wasting the wages anymore than Gibson/Pienaar are at the moment. If we sold him we'd only have to spend money to replace him with another squad player. We need depth not just a starting XI.

Depth can't mean just numbers for the sake of it, surely. It means the player who comes in can do a job when called on, and also they put pressure on the player in the team who is ahead of them in the queue

McGeady just hasn't shown he can do this enough. I think he knows it as well

Oh no I definitely agree in that sense but we don't have the surplus cash to be spending on these kinds of players at the moment. We desperately need a goalkeeper and creative player which should use up all of our funds. Buying replacement squad players just doesn't seem realistic for Everton at the minute as much as I'd like it to be.

Lennon -- defensive winger lol
McGeady - useless
Mirallas - back from injury
Deulofeu - massive potential
Pienaar - finished
Naismith - useless
Cleverley - balance on the left

Think we need a clear out myself.

Yeh we do have too many, sure I haven't seen Naismith on the wing a few times this season. Phew.

This is what separates the top (richest) teams from everyone else, the strength in depth to be able to replace your first choice player with someone of comparable ability and value. Our strongest XI is pretty damn decent with a few good replacements in the squad. As soon as injuries and suspensions kick in, we can't really replace like-for-like. As you say, we need a few squad fillers who aren't up to the required quality because that's all we can afford

You realise you just reinforced my point, right? Out of those 7 only 4 are actual wingers (don't consider Pienaar an orthodox winger myself) with all of them playing on the right. Geri is young, Lennon is for tight games & Kev is always dead. That's 4 wingers for a team that plays with 2 every match.

If you want to keep shoving Cleverley or Naismith out left then feel free to want to sell McGeady but it's blind logic IMO.

Huh? We play 2 wingers EVERY match? Thats actually what we DONT do!!

How is it 'reinforcing your point' which is stating we should keep McGeady? You seem to think we dont have too many wide players...lets try this again:

Deulofeu RW
Cleverley LM

And then these disasters:

Mirallas LW/RW (injury prone/not in favour)
Pienaar LM (finished)
Naismith (donkey)
Lennon RW (no end product)
McGeady (no rating)
Kone (lol)

That makes 8 players who have been wide this season, of which 2 are (or should be 1st choice)...the rest should be punted and 2 more brought in.

Clearly though im wrong and 8 players isnt enough for the wide positions....lol

Sigh, you're missing the point. Playing 4-2-3-1 every game means we need to play 2 wingers. Do we have a LM & RM fit every game? No do we Hell; so why sell most of them and more importantly McGeady when we haven't got replacements nor the excess funds to buy 2 back-up wingers let alone a first choice left mid.

And please stop referencing Cleverley as our first choice left winger as it just makes me want to cry that you think that's an acceptable situation for Everton to be in.

When fit how many times has cleverley played on the left / or how many times have we played with 2 wingers?

The point is that other than Deulofeu and Cleverley the rest on the list (bar mirallas possibly) shouldnt be anywhere near the side..my hope is that yarmolenko is signed and Martinez clears the rest out (even lennon which will never happen)...we only need 4 players for 2 slots not 8.

So we buy Yarmalenko, sell a ton of players, then have him, Del & Mirallas to pick from out of the squad who are ACTUAL wingers? What happens if we get an injury or two since it's common for us? What about fatigue? Where's the rest of the transfer budget to buy key positions like a playmaker and a keeper?

You seem like someone who plays FIFA more than understands how a squad actually works in real life. We need back-up squad players who won't moan their tits off at not playing every week. You think Kev will stay if he's on the bench every game? Do you think Cleverley is the solution as a back-up left winger?

You didnt answer my question. This season we have NOT played more games than not with 2 wingers.

But lets say we only went with 2 wingers...going with the signing of Yarmolenko as well:

Deulofeu
Mirallas
Yarmolenko
Lennon (newly signed)

Thats 4 players for 2 positions...enough.

If we actually punted Lennon (never going to happen) then him + Pienaar + McGeady + Naismith and you could even lump in Kone and Osman create a huge amount in free wages + £8mil for Naismith and maybe money back on Lennon...

Thats enough for a £10mil winger.

Anyway, my point is just that 4 wide players is enough...Deulofeu and Mirallas make 2...Lennon is newly signed...Martinez likes Cleverley on the left...thats 4 players.

We dont really need more than 2 players per position.
