The lad's still a classy player, a massive step up in class from any other forward / midfielder in the squad and is more than capable of doing a great job for us for a couple of years, maybe three at a push.

You mentioned in the transfer thread the type of player we need, a Beardsley/Rooney type ( I won't mention the other tit mentioned ) and your absolutely spot on with the first 2. So if the opportunity arose tomorrow that we could get him back and he would be open to the move I would slap 20m straight on Utds table and get the deal done.

Lukaku would have an absolute field day with Rooney playing just off him.

For a player a couple of months away from turning 30?

I would worry about giving him a contract over 3 years never mind having to pay a fee.
