I wouldn't worry too much about what's said on here and I pay little attention to British media so don't know (and don't care) what their take on it all is.

As a matter of interest, has Jeremy said anything about the Taliban takeover?

Unconnected, of course, but Hamas have issued another congratulatory statement, even more fulsome than their earlier one:

In the name of of Allah the Merciful
Press release
Issued by the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas

- Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas blesses the people of the Muslim Afghan defeat of the US occupation of Afghan territory.

-The Hamas movement congratulates the Taliban movement and its courageous leadership on this victory, which was the culmination of its long jihad over the past twenty years.

- Wishing Afghan Muslim people and their leadership success in liberating Afghanistan and its people , unity, stability and prosperity, to confirm that the demise of the American occupation and its allies, to prove that the resistance of peoples, particularly the Palestinian people who are struggling will be victorious and achieve their goals of freedom and return , God willing.

"The victory comes only from Allah"

Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas.

The earlier one, issued by multi-millionaire and deputy leader Moussa Abu Marzouk contained the suggestion that the Taliban have "not been fooled by slogans like democracy and elections", which perhaps inadvertently reveals Hamas's true thoughts about any future Palestinian elections.

he put this out a few hours ago:

"All our thoughts today should be with the Afghan people who have endured decades of violence, with no end to the uncertainty and danger in sight.
There is now a serious refugee emergency in the region. We must play our part in welcoming people seeking safety, and work with our neighbours to develop a multinational plan to help refugees, rather than tightening borders as is currently taking place across Europe. We should also support Afghanistan’s neighbours in receiving refugees; a comprehensive relief effort now will save lives and safeguard futures for a tiny fraction of the cost of war.

We must learn the lessons of a two-decade war which cost nearly a quarter of a million lives and failed to achieve security for the Afghan people or prevent the spread of terrorism. The War on Terror and its architects’ reckless use of force to deal with complex political issues has had profound, uncountable, and unacceptable human costs – whether to British and allied servicemen and women or to the civilian populations of Afghanistan, Iraq, and beyond.
Invasions and occupations are not only wrong and violate the right to sovereignty, they also do not deliver viable and sustainable political settlements. We cannot allow ourselves to be led down such a disastrous road again.

Too often rejecting military intervention is conflated with taking no action at all. As well as resettling refugees, I will be making the case in Parliament this week for the UK to play its part in a robust diplomatic effort that engages regional powers to ensure stability. This will need to cover humanitarian support, a response to rising extreme poverty, respect for human and civil rights especially those of women and girls, and real self-determination for Afghanistan."

China and Russia will cozy up. They'll have their backing.

I mean, I know this is how it works. Wasn't Al Qaeda funded with CIA backing to fight the Russians back in the 80s and 90s?
You're quite correct. That's exactly the plot of Rambo III :D
I wonder why all those people are fleeing. Even Rambo wanted to stay:

All kidding aside: let's leave the middle east. We can do no good. I have no clue how to change an antivaxxer's mind, let alone somebody that believes in Allah & sharia law....

Yep. They made a film about 10 years ago, Charlie Wilsons War. Satirical comedy, notable for the scene on the balcony at the end between Tom Hanks and Philip Seymour Hoffman.

Lol at you trying to make him out as an ally for what you want. I agree with what he said, it sounds reasonable. It's not really a solution but it would have prevented what is going on right now.

He was talking about 3,500 troops more so to keep the peace. Not continue a nation building exercise as you go on for.

You can write what you write. You went off about leftists and BLM, your credibility is shot and I don't respect you as a person at all.

So I could careless about your editing posts and what you say... how old are you? Must feel pathetic deep down when you take inventory.

I’m glad you don’t respect me. Your ignorance of international affairs and your complete lack of understanding of history, probably due to your age and lack of education, identifies you as someone I cannot have a rational discussion with. Welcome to the ignore button…..

Biden's talking.

'We were there for anti-terror mission, not anti-insurgency or nation building mission.' lol

Again, way harsh.

We had to go in. No response = impeachment proceedings and Cheney goes in. If we go in, you're coming with. That's just how the special relationship works.

The big mistake was going into Iraq without sorting Afghanistan as best we could first. We lacked the force to sort both. Afghanistan probably isn't solvable, but if it was solvable it was in 2002 and 2003.

Doing things the way we did cost a lot of lives, and lost Afghanistan. Biden doesn't own those. He does own the messy pullout.

I’m not sure it was harsh, but you are correct in identifying the mistake of spreading the forces. Biden doesn’t own any of the previous crap, even though he was VP in mid 2000’s. But he alone owns the absolute shambles that is currently happening……

The difference is antivaxxers aren't secretly getting vaccines.

The extremist Islamists go on about drugs, alcohol and sex but seem happy to get in on the action while they think nobody is watching.

A lot of ANA and the police hadn't been paid , for long periods
Despite the proganda were mostly disillusioned., reports drug taking was rife among them have been coming out for months
The Taliban played a blinder by treating those that surrendered well and giving those still fighting the choice of fighting for a corrupt government and getting killed or the chance to surrender and basically walk away
I know what I would do and it wouldn't be getting killed by my neighbours..
