You also need to look at the state of mind of the ANA who woke up one morning to find the entire US military contingent in Afghanistan had done a literal overnight runner.

Look at the usual people on here are blaming Biden for this, despite in one case admitting he knows the timeline and who signed the treaty ordering it to happen. He is still blaming Biden today.

Just a mess. But obviously, we (the west) can't be there forever.

So maybe just leave well alone. That serves 'our' interest.

It does not serve the population of Afghanistan that do want to be progressive, that don't want to live under Taliban rule, though, and those are the people who need to be helped and who the west should be helping.
