I know, but apparently it’s Biden’s fault?

Aren't they kind of both to blame?

I do see the point Biden's rep made - that whether the troops pulled out now, or in 5 years or 10 years, the same thing would probably happen.

It's why I kind of find the whole 'blame the west' argument a bit difficult. Sure, every country has played its part and must all step in to help - I don't dispute that. We've made things worse not better. But the root issue is also the Taliban. And I do agree that it was a pointless war and we should never have gone over there. So in that sense, yes, blame the west.

Now, it's how countries like the US, UK, Russia etc use the Taliban and have done previously which helped them get so much power in the first place.

I want every single member of the Taliban, who wants to enforce Sharia law, and extremist views, wiped off the face of the planet. They are evil, they are monsters. In my mind that's what we should to to war to fight against. But I know real life doesn't work like that.

The vast majority of Afghans support Sharia Law - https://www.politifact.com/factchec...mostly-correct-about-sharia-law-support-afgh/

The reason why the war is not winnable is due to ideology. A sizeable percentage of the general public there to some degree agree with taliban policy.

Its horrible that women and girls will be discriminated against but it happens in other countries around the world. The world police approach just doesn't work.

China in a win-win situation here for them.

They generally won’t care what despot or extremist group run the country as long as they are friendly to China’s interests.
They offer to ‘help’ the incoming Taliban regime and will likely get themselves a foothold in the Middle East on their own border.

They keep themselves clear of the wrath of any Islamist terror groups in the process and get to gloat at the US and UK to boot.

Indeed, hence the stupidity of the withdrawal……

I don't think it's world policing though.

I'm all for individualism. And I'm all for respecting other cultures.

But not when they are so archaic, extremist, disgusting and backward.

It's not a controversial thing to say either. It needs to stop, it's 2021. It's evil.
