that and Kosovo, both of which were done for the right reasons (and a lot of luck), unfortunately fed his God complex so that when Iraq happened he thought he knew best
Yeah, been to Kosovo, Kosovars worship Blair and Clinton...crazy stuff lol

The Taliban are happy for westerns to leave without a fuss because it will provide support for their proposed 'peaceful' transition of power.

To that extent, there isn't really a rush. However, the Tablian are not happy with Afghans leaving, so it'll be interesting to see how much time they do allow.
Yup. Canada alone is committed to repatriating 20k personnel including 8k Afghans…gonna be interesting

Literally just handed the keys over.
To be fair, all things considered it's probably the most sensible of decisions as they would certainly lose and it could be a bloodbath (for them and civilians).

It may also increase the chance of reprisals. Right now, they will be trying to figure out either how to flee Afghanistan or save themselves if they stay.
Beware anyone who claims they have a god on their side.
"Every man who wages war thinks God is on his side, and often I warrant God should often wonder who is on his."

I meant the US and UK, don't blame the locals left behind at all. Best chance for them of surviving is not fighting. Suicide fighting without Western support, would only be one outcome.

Do we think the higher ups in Taliban are religious fanatics as we perceive them or they use religions to control their minions in doing their bidding for control? Probably both is the answer really.

That's a great quote there. I'm admittedly not great on English history going back to that time period. I definitely have to read up on Cromwell.
