Steve Walsh picked another gem.

Gets a bit worrying if his hit rate starts creeping up. Tbh its hard to know how much he is at fault because Klaasen Martina Siggurdson just seem like Koeman buys. Lookman Onyekuru Vlasic may turn out to be good, Pickford and Gueye are. We’ll just have to ignore Williams Keane and Bolasie for the argument to work ha.

Don't think Steve Walsh ever had an issue identifying good players and prospects.
He's a scout, a head scout... his failure lies in his role as Director of Football which in my opinion put him outside his own comfort zone.

I think the lad is an exciting future prospect but not sure if he is cut out for the EPL both for the physical demands and defensive tracking back.

In hindsight it was completely the wrong blend. A scout in his first role as DOF having to tell a manager with a legendary name that he couldn’t buy proven (at the time) prem players like Bolasie Siggurdson or Keane? He was simply the wrong character for what we needed at the time. Brands and Silva seem to be a better fit in that Brands seemingly has the authority over a more junior coach.

So you don't find it troubling that he didn't get even a second against Bury?

I don't know mate, that's worrying for me. Why would he not get a kick when even MARTINA came on at one point?
Holgate off as well then? We’ve got 2 games in 2 days over the weekend against proper opposition. Maybe Marco has already seen enough and he’s holding him back for them.

I’m not saying he’ll definitely stay but I wouldn’t read too much into him not playing against Bury

Completely agree with this.
Not defending Walsh at all, just think this idea that he's completely clueless is nonsense - that role just did not suit his skill set but we were blinded by the magic of the Leicester league win.

I like Lookman and think he has lots of potential, but at the moment that is all it is POTENTIAL.
He has played a total of 15 (fifteen) games for us and some people are acting like it would as bad as selling Alan Ball in his prime.
I hope he stays, but IF HE WANTS OUT as some are saying, then £20m WITH a negotiated 'sell on' fee would not be bad business.

For me personally it’s more what message are we sending to the world of football:

- Are we a club that nurtures potential into hopefully proven talent?
- Do we spend over the top on proven and sustain with hopeful potential?

Right now we’re a little bit in between. Brands makes me think it’ll be the former but if we sell Lookman for a paltry £20m and we don’t go sign some “stars” then I fail to see what the long term plan is for the club.

I’m of the belief that Silva left Holgate and Lookman out because he recognizes their talent and he needs to evaluate the other options we have. If it was just Lookman, I may have been a bit concerned.
We will know more this weekend, Ive considered the possibility he left Lookman out because he wanted him to get a full workout this weekend against better opposition than Bury.

I understand people saying if he’s not happy then let him go. It would very disappointing tho imho , the lad has a ton of potential and seeing it potentially prosper elsewhere would be frustrating.

I always thought that Lookman looked very raw in his appearances under Koeman, but his performances in Germany suggest that there's definitely a lot to work with.

Everton should just hold firm on this one.
