I don't really want a long, he's good, he's crap thread, though I suspect taht this might happen.

Just to point out to everyone that when Valencia nicked him from under our noses (I know there are other explanations), they brought him outright.

He is no longer part owned by anyone as Valencia has his full registration- which is why the loan deal was much easier to sort out.

Assuming Moyes wants him he has three options, to buy him at the £12m quoted, negotiate a lower price, or ltake him on loan him again thereby potentially running down his value as he nears the end of his contract.

There seems to be confusion around the ownership and I have seen both camps offering 50% & 100% ownership as fact. Blacktoffee, do you have any authoritative links that back your point of order?

Source for this??? I was under the impression that Valencia payed that 12 mill for Benfica's 50% share.

I've got a feeling he is still part owned. Shame really as its really stopping his career from progressing and stopping him from finding the right club.

No one is going to pay 12 million for him so he's stuck where he is unless someone loans him again. If I was him I'd do everything in my power to buy them out of his contract.

The link includes the paragraphs below... which implies to me that Valencia owns 50%....

"But the whole deal has been turned on its head, even though Everton had actually agreed to meet the $30m asking price for 100% of the player.

Previously it was believed that they had agreed to pay Benfica $15m for their half of Fernandes, with the third-party owners holding the other 50%.

That initially caused problems for the Premier League, who are clamping down on all third-party transfers in the wake of the Carlos Tevez affair, and Everton then moved to buy out the other 50% from the owners.

But at the last moment it looks as if Valencia, who play in Spain's Primera Liga where third-party contracts are no problem, have stepped in and offered around $25m for just 50% of the player, which means his owners would retain an interest in the player and any future transfer fees."

It's a stupid ruling that third party owned players can't play in the premiership. Most of the world's wonderkids are being snapped up by these companies, and they will go to Serie A or La Liga because we cannot play them in the premiership.

By not accepting 3rd party owned players. The FA are handicapping English clubs to some of most talented youngsters out there.

Im thinking about 7/8mil i dont think he is worth 12mil to us, moyesy can do more withh that

I was under the impression he was still part owned.

Completely off topic. Why do the British media always refer to the Spanish League as the 'Primera Liga'.
I can assure you it's not called that.
In Spain you have 'La Liga' (The league), and you also have 'La primera division' (The first division). So refering to The Spanish first division in this way is the equivalent of calling the English top flight (Pre Premiership days) as 'The First League'.

The thing i dont get about third oparty onership surely its in breach of European Law as to an extent it restricts freedom to move between countires like the Bosman.

To be clearer clubs have to agree a contract for a specific time frame with a player when that contract ends hes free to move. Why are third party contracts not for a period of time, surely its the same restriction on freedom of movement as before the Bosman case. Another thing i wonder about it what will ghappen if or when a player wants to retire can he choose or is he requested to keep playing.

So does this mean that Utd have to buy tevez or he cant play next season? Surely his third party owners will drive his price through the roof with this decison.

I was thinking that till I remembered he is on a 2 year loan and this was arranged before this ruling. Just a hunch and I may be wrong, but it is the only thing that makes sense.

That's exactly it. It's advantageous for the player because he knows the third party will hawk him around europe for the highest bidder and will get the best possible deal because the third party will make more money from his investment

What do players actually get out of being "owned" by some third party? Aren't they just glorified agents?

I think a lot of it is they are promised a quicker passage to the riches of the big european leagues. Personally i think the fa/epl are doing the right thing. These kind of deals shouldn't be allowed and hopefully the stance they are taking will help fifa/other leagues see that and see them banned across the world.
