It's a good rule because we're allowed to field Anichebe and co as English under this section.

Uefa defines 'home-grown players' as team members who, regardless of age or nationality, have trained with their club or by another club in the same country for at least three years between the ages of 15 and 21.

This would mean that although players such as Victor Anichebe and Lee Carsley play for national teams out side of their domestic club’s country, they would still be defined as a home-grown player.

I think that its great news if it comes in ,But doubt that it will. Not only will it give more home grown players a chance to make it it must strengthen the England team in time as at the moment there are not enough English players at the top clubs,if nothing is done we will be like Scotland in a few years(y)

How will it strengthen the England team exactly? We're not getting English players into the top clubs on merit, we're installing a quota system to get them there through virtue of their nationality. Suppose that's easier than actually coaching them properly though.

It's a good rule because we're allowed to field Anichebe and co as English under this section.
And the dozens of foreign youngsters in the Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal academies too. Half arsed populism by Blatter.

It's against EU law to discriminate on grounds of nationality when EU citizens are concerned. It's also pretty pointless anyway since the duty of each club is to produce the best possible team, not to be a nurturing machine for the England team. Leave things as they are, that's what I say (although Wenger might want to have a look at English talent just once in a while).

I can only see this rule bringing down the quality of the Prem leauge! Essentially all it will do is drive up the cost of already overvalued British players, and as such drive up the wages of the same group of players.

Basicly it will hamper compitition and employment recruitment as Engilish playrs will be seen as elitest compared to other non nationals. Sub standard players being widely sought after and thrown huge wages even though there crap, will do nothing for the egomania that surrounds English players.

Stinks of discrimination for me.

I think this is the only way in which we could possibly compete for the Prem title and bring back some sort of competetive balance to the leagues. That being said there seems something wrong about it. I'm torn.

How will it strengthen the England team exactly? The clubs will spend more time coaching and also late developers will have a chance to bloom at the moment its to tempting to discard them and go for cheaper options abroad,(y)

Can't see it myself. Clubs have a job to win matches, surely coaching should be a fundamental thing that they perform all the time anyway. That the youth system in England sucks is no fault of the foreigners in this country. Why do no English players go abroad if they can't get games at the top level in the PL?

Same for late developers. Jagielka's a late developer isn't he? He was ditched by us and picked up by Sheffield United and worked his way back to the top. Our players are overly pampered as it is without making it even easier for them.

Look at Danny's thread about England winning Euro 2008. That's the problem. Kids join the academies and start thinking they're gods gift straight away. Scott Spencer's on my Facebook and you certainly wouldn't think he was a professional athlete the way he carries on.
