45 Minute Wonders

The last international break was before the Chelsea game. So we've had:

Chelsea:
West Ham
Fulham
Newcastle
Man City

Can't put it down to travelling as I've travelled to the same games myself and I got up the next day and went for a run. Probably stayed over in London after West Ham. How many players do we have playing for their country this week? If it happens against Hull, Villa and Spurs then it could be worrying.

The next 3 games will be harder than any. Hull City are playing well so far and give it everything they've got for 90 minutes. Villa are doing well at home and are a tough side to face. Tottenham, despite being hammered 3-0 are still title contenders and come here on the 3rd.

Does anyone know when Sky or BT are announcing the next set of broadcasted fixtures? I need to know as we play Arsenal and I've got to book train tickets.

Bloody hell mate.

It was the west ham game when Martinez ripped into the team and they came out inspired and fought for the win.

Newcastle we went in at half time so I could only imagine he praised them and our players took that as a "take it a bit easier" option.

I think it must come down to whatever goes on in that dressing room at Half time, if he gets them inspired at west ham then maybe the tough approach works. The tough approach Moyes used worked so maybe he needs to be more stern. He comes across as too nice sometimes.

Does anyone know when Aston Villa tickets will be announced? I know they're £42 for adults and £35 for juniors.

This "one half" split is nonsense we've outplayed most in the majority of games for the majority of the match but proper football involves leaving space and the opposition will eventually get in unless your Barca - it's been the Arsenal achilles heel this past 8 yrs.

The Martinez plan is high risk stuff, without comparable money he's trying to produce a successful winning football club via coaching - that hasn't happened in this country since before the Prem.

We will be on the back foot from time to time.

As good as Lukaku is, he only seems capable of giving us 45 mins. Ditto Mirallis.

Thats been obvious so far..he runs out of steam after an hour or so. This may well be the problem with him that Mourhino has spotted. WBA used him as an impact sub, so he came on freshh and effected games late on, in general. RM is using him from the start. I know some on here will be horrified, but I think we may find Kone sharing more of the striking load with Lukaku from now on. Sort of still on topic...the non use of Velios is a mystery, he played aggressively when coming on as a sub the few chances he got under Ginger Nuts, and I'm surprised RM has not considered him as a late sub for Lukaku.

I don't think it has anything to do with anything, its just football and the slightest thing can change the game.

vs West Ham - Lukaku's introduction changed the game for us. He bullied their defence and give them problems. Jelavic was weak and was not holding the ball up allowing West Ham to pick up everything loose
vs Newcastle - Cabaye totally changed the game for them, his distribution and ball retention made a big impact on there midfield. If he didn't hit that shot as sweetly the game could have easily ended 3-0
vs Man City - We looked at lot more comfortable in the first half, but we were still under a bit of pressure. 2nd half we were chasing shadows as City's dominance, and pride, came to the forefront. As you would expect from team that cost £500m

Fulham was a freak show, we should have buried them and that was down to missed chances. Fulham put us under a bit more pressure in the 2nd half, as you'd expect being the home team, but we still had a load of clear cut chances to put them gae to bed. It was just one of the games.

Its football, no need to over analyse every little detail

I don't think we played badly in the 2nd half against Newcastle, 3-2 flattered them big time.

This. They had nothing to lose and were always going to come out all guns blazing that first 10 mins. The trick is containing them, make them give up or adding another goal to make them give up. Unfortunately cabaye scored a wonder goal which gave them belief and made it a trickier game than it should of been.

City are a top side, better than us and were playing at home. Is it any suprise what happened there? I don't think so tbh. Also a couple of things went against us...

We'v actually just come off a tricky run of fixtures. Chelsea and Newcastle (H) and city, west ham (A) are some of the harder games of the season. 9/12pts shouldn't be grumbled at.

Newcastle second half was probably a mental thing, when you batter someone to the level we did in the first half, you'll get casual, they probably came out thinking "Deez are ****e".

Man city was just an off day for too many players, (coupled with Silva shouldn't of been on the pitch, uber gash ref) we just didn't turn up.

We'll smash Hull though, the cod-headed freaks.

I'm not really overly worried. Newcastle came out after a rollicking from pardew then played like a team possessed against Cardiff (plus dont think we were that bad 2nd half Newcastle). Man city our heads defiantly went down after there 3rd (wether the players were thinking how can we get anything here without the rub of the green and a homer of a ref)but until then we were certainly in the game. Agree that a few players have looked worn out but that may be all about youth and likes of Barkley and lukaku will learn how to play for 90 minutes with time

I know it's a cliche but psychologically, their goals knocked the stuffing out of us. Equalised within a minute and went ahead in the last minute of the 1st half. It was always going to be uphill after that. Especially as you say with an accommodating ref for them and, to be fair, they were playing well and well up for it.

People are talking about Everton like we are a finished product. We will still be in transition in a years time. I don’t expect to see a Martinez team for at least two / three seasons. He will have players that he just doesn’t see fitting his style. In time he will ship them out and bring in his type of player.

He can’t be judged against a squad that he didn’t assemble. The start has been impressive all the same and if the rate of improvement continues at this pace then we will be an incredible team in a few seasons. The only thing I’m not convinced by yet is Kone, but hopefully he will improve in time.
