45 Minute Wonders

So as a few have noticed this season is a right old funny one for Everton so far.

A decent start and no mistake, but a pattern does appear to be there.

We seem to have a one decent 45 minute performance but the other is not so good.

Saturday is a good example. We weren't bad at all first half, but second we were poor (blah blah ref, I know he was poor but so were we). There are more than a few other examples of this, Newcastle at home, Norwich away etc....

But why do you think this is?

I think I refuse to beleive it's a fitness thing. It could be I guess, but these are professional footballers at the peak of their game (apart from Osman), so surely it can't be a fitness thing.

Are teams just working us out, and we need a back up plan?

What does GOT think?

(this a question Mick).

Have you seen liverpools results if games started at half time? They would be sitting bottom 5. So they are probably doing the same but sitting top of the league

In all honesty mate, not too bothered about them.

More worried about us.

Just wondering really.

I'm not really overly worried. Newcastle came out after a rollicking from pardew then played like a team possessed against Cardiff (plus dont think we were that bad 2nd half Newcastle). Man city our heads defiantly went down after there 3rd (wether the players were thinking how can we get anything here without the rub of the green and a homer of a ref)but until then we were certainly in the game. Agree that a few players have looked worn out but that may be all about youth and likes of Barkley and lukaku will learn how to play for 90 minutes with time

Yeah could be. Glad you're not too worried. Makes me feel better.

Thing is sometimes it's been the second half we've been better.

Two reasons really:

1. We are still in the mindset of Moyes, keep what we have after the first half and don't push to finish the game off incase we get caught on the break - oops, it's happened.

2. When we have dominated the opposition get a rollicking, come out fighting and we revert to number 1 above.

Unfortunately this is why we will always be there or abouts but not in the elite group, we never out a team to the sword. Newcastle was a prime example, we should have won 5-0 or more but struggled in the end to win.

The thing is Ijjy one feature of Moyes' EFC was that the players were able to maintain consistent levels of performance for a whole 90 minutes.
The new gameplan involves high tempo passing and movement, and so fatigue is guaranteed.
This is probably one of the major areas Martinez will work on getting the players used to - and is what he refers to when asking fans to be patient in the players adapting...

And yet it was the second half performance which blew West Ham away.

And after vweathering the Chelsea storm in the first twenty minutes of the second half, it was EFC whom came on strongest toward the end.

And we finished the strongest of the teams v Norwich and Cardiff as well.

That's exactly what I mean thought mate. It's like it's one half or the other.

Could well be what has been said. Just imbedding the style and stuff.

The last international break was before the Chelsea game. So we've had:

Chelsea:
West Ham
Fulham
Newcastle
Man City

Can't put it down to travelling as I've travelled to the same games myself and I got up the next day and went for a run. Probably stayed over in London after West Ham. How many players do we have playing for their country this week? If it happens against Hull, Villa and Spurs then it could be worrying.

The next 3 games will be harder than any. Hull City are playing well so far and give it everything they've got for 90 minutes. Villa are doing well at home and are a tough side to face. Tottenham, despite being hammered 3-0 are still title contenders and come here on the 3rd.

Does anyone know when Sky or BT are announcing the next set of broadcasted fixtures? I need to know as we play Arsenal and I've got to book train tickets.

Might have been just a change of tactics. The first half was very open and they were cutting us apart. 2nd half we were a bit more solid defensively but didn't create as many chances.
