Player Valuation: £40m
Given that we now have two strikers that Martinez has faith in, neither Barkley or Osman are in particularly sparkling form and we've played pretty much all of our difficult away games I wonder whether Roberto will experiment with 4-4-2?

__________Howard
Coleman Jagielka Distin Baines
Mirallas Barry McCarthy Pienaar
_______Traore Lukaku

Unlikely but we might switch to it late on. I like 2 strikers and thsoe two if fit would be murder to defend against

No just no....

I'd seriously doubt whether possession based football can be played using a 4-4-2. Not to mention that outdated formation simply doesn't work anymore. Unless you have a special player like Rooney, and then it's not really a standard 4-4-2 anyway.

Why? Possession-based football is a style of play. Why should it be formation dependent? Why shouldn't we try to be disruptive and do something different? Which defenders would want to face Lukaku and Traore?

Neither of them are a number 9, they both play like the modern day lone striker.

It simply wouldnt work and besides, I doubt Traore will ever play for us.

Oh and in order to play 4-4-2, you need a number 6 and a number 8 and we sadly dont have a number 8 within the squad.

Barry and McCarthy compares with Reid and Bracewell or Whelan and McMahon. I know it's a different era but I don't think you necessarily need to have an attacking midfielder and a defensive midfielder, especially as our wide players and full backs get forward so much. Effectively we would be pushing Barkley's position further forward and readjusting by playing Pienaar and Mirallas slightly wider.

he's already played once.

HE HAS? MY GOD!!! WHY WASNT I TOLD?

Well the old 4-4-2 wouldnt work in the modern game.

The new 4-4-2 is like this :

1
2 - 4 - 5 - 3
6
7- 8 - 11
9 - 10

Bold statement. Maybe they're being cautious with him in the knowledge that if he does aggravate the injury he could be out for a couple of months?

As Mourinho said, I don't think we're aggressive enough offensively and I'd like to see us do something that would create problems for the opposition. I don't think any defence would be happy a 6 ft 8 beanpole who likes to keep it on the deck and a powerhouse.

He wasnt fit when he came, it took him a few weeks to get fit, now hes injured again, for god knows how long, then its gonna be a while until he gets fit and another few weeks until he gets match fitness and adjusts to the league, then boom, its May and off he goes, probably.
