3-4-3

I think Rodgers only uses it to be flash. For the last few years they've had one of the meanest defences in the league anyway and their usual fullback pairing of Johnson and Enrique are among the best at getting forward even with a flat back four. I've just noticed that they haven't kept a clean sheet playing a back three and their last shut out was against United with a back four!

If they had everyone fit and to get all their best players on the pitch their system could be:

_______Mignolet
_Johnson Skrtel Enrique
_____Gerrard Lucas
Sterling Countinho Moses
____Sturridge Suarez

I think all our best players are already in the side. If Deulofeu became undroppable we could try a similar system ourselves:

________Howard
Coleman Jagielka Baines
____McCarthy Barry
Deulofeu Barkley Pienaar
_____Mirallas Lukaku

It would probably be scarily overloaded up front though and we'd give Jags too much work to do on his own.

In your case McCarthy has dropped out. I don't think that we can afford to sacrifice anyone to bring Stones into the side and I don't see the case for his inclusion. What would we gain?

At which point did I say that this is the formation we should be playing?

The topic is 3-4-3, so given the players in our squad... I was going over the most probable/suited line ups.

Here's a thought for you...Martinez played McCarthy at right back in the cup final. Maybe he could be slotted in in place of Stones?

So you have taken out a player from midfield and put him in defence, it simply doesnt make any sense.

I honestly dont understand why we would need to play 3 CBs, we have conceded 10 goals in 10 matches, what benefit does 3 CBs give a Club like ours, we have 2 of the most attacking fullbacks in the League. The only real "issue" I feel we have within the side is the fact that McCarthy and Barry are the same sort of player, we could probably do with adding somebody a tiny bit more creative, direct.

The idea here is not adding defense, but rather freeing up Coleman/Baines... if you have three at the back with either one of Barry/McCarthy (and sometimes, both) in front of them, you figure Coleman and Baines won't have to get back as quickly/can commit themselves more to the attack.

Problem with this is that our wing backs would be pretty limited going forward, no? Either that or McCarthy and/or Barry essentially play as center backs, but I prefer them breaking up play in the midfield...

You mean the Coleman and Baines that do nothing but attack?

I see absolutely no need for a back 3 system. Every team who have tried it concede more goals and lose games. Plus every defender who speaks about it says they don't really enjoy it.

Yeah, it's flawed. It was an experiment to see if we could get all our best players on the pitch at the same time but it would be very unbalanced. The midfield would be congested, there would be too much space down our flanks and Jags would probably end up 1v1 or even 1v2.

Relax guys. With Barry constantly deployed so deep that sometimes he's in line with Jags and Distin, we are fielding ourselves in a 2332 formation (with the 32 awfully lopsided) rather than plain 4231/13 or 451.
