This is my 20th year as a STH and I’m feeling very much the same mate. I was so excited for the new stadium to be completed over the last few years but now it’s here, there’s something amiss. Like you say, perhaps it’s the football, the change of routine, new people around us or maybe a combination of those things.

I’m looking to move from the Upper South to the Lower as the whole atmosphere feels so flat up there.
I’m also in the upper south and the atmosphere sounds dreadful everywhere. I live over the water and the time it takes to get home now is ridiculous. 2 hours! If I stay to the final whistle it takes 20 mins to just get from my seat to the concourse then a further 20 to get out the ground. Then there’s the walk to the car and then the traffic. Why the club couldn’t have just dropped the seating plan of Goodison in to the new stadium then filled the gaps with people who wanted to move I don’t understand. They spent years getting people together in the lower Gwladys to get a singing section going then messed it all up with the move. I really don’t enjoy going the game anymore due to the time getting home, the prices of everything and the atmosphere. I have tried to get songs going and people look at you like you’re crazy as they sit there quietly moaning as another attack stops on the halfway line. I’ve even argued with people over their lack of support as we attack and only moans when we don’t. In short…. The whole matchday experience is a ballache and depressing.

12th season as a STH and whilst I will renew I'm of the mind to see how it goes next season as there's a certain amount of dissatisfaction with how this season has gone. I don't have any complaints over the stadium or the atmosphere and like to think the development of the area between town and the ground will improve the travel issues and the experience. My main issue is the mid week fixtures. I have a 400 mile round trip, mid week fixtures just aren't possible and whilst there is an acceptance that there would be 2 or 3 in a season, this season has been ridiculous. Previously I could easily pass on my ticket or resell it and get the credit towards the next ST but that doesn't happen now with so many available tickets. I've paid for at least 5 games that I couldn't attend and got nothing back from. Thats more than 25% of our home games and if this is to be the norm then I'd be better off buying a membership and picking and choosing my games.

Ye, all them

There are two different threads asking about ST renewal. One showing 20% not renewing, the other showing approx 10% plus another 15% undecided. That's before we see any price increases etc. They're only very small sample sizes and started at different times, so I'm not sure if those who are not renewing would be more inclined to vote, or perhaps be influenced by recent form or number of night matches or whatever other factor. However, if those percentages are representative of the actual numbers who will not renew, then that's a large drop-off after just the first season. Yes, there is supposed to be a large waiting list, but the low take-up of resale seats for some games (albeit at the higher tkt prices) might suggest that attendances will start to drop-off. The transport issues and relative convenience factors for less mobile fans all need to be addressed to help keep more fans engaged, before the novelty and whole "new-stadium-effect" is gone completely.

Yes, the votes after a cold, wet midweek game in January will probably differ after a sunny Saturday afternoon game in spring. Can still see a fair amount jibbing it like but probably not as many who were willing to after them 4 or 5 midweek games in the winter.

I think the big drop off will be out-of-towners like me. I’m still undecided but leaning towards jibbing it, and picking and choosing the games I go to. Mainly cos of the midweek and unsocial weekend kick offs, which is no fault of the club of course, but also because it’s going to take years to turn this into a home and I miss the people around me in the Upper Bullens.

My first game was as a nipper with my dad and Alan Ball scored so you can guess my vintage from that. Going to the match at the new place just ain’t the same. If I still lived in Liverpool, and had better people around me at the match then it might be a different story.

Looks great from the outside, great views inside, but the experience is bland, especially in the current PL world where only five clubs start the season with a realistic chance of winning it. And we’re not and never will be one of the five.
