Current Affairs 2024 POTUS race

No, I asked why people were saying Biden's health and cognition were obviously worse than Trump's. That diminishes the train wreck that is Trump's mind.

I'm not giving Biden a pass. We literally turn off the TV when a Biden speech comes on. It's cringeworthy and unwatchable. He should not be running for another term.

Again, everything must be seen through the lens of the alternative. Here in America, we have a binary choice.

And when there's a narrative that Biden is unfit for office, but Trump is fit as a fiddle, I have a real problem with that

Whether these two should be our options is a whole other debate, which only serves as a waste of time.
Who could be best as vice pres under Biden and managed into office full time 6 months in? And thus who is best as vice vice pres if that makes sense?

That’s not at all the point or question you posed. You asked why people were talking about Bidens health and cognition. You’re basically suggesting that because Trump is worse everyone should just give Biden a pass on everything and pretend he’s still fit?

Look, of the two I’d wager most here will vote for Biden. However, that’s still the issue to me. Were just forced to accept someone who has no business continuing. Both sides are the problem. One is just way less worse.
Again, this is not true in my book.
The Democrats arent an extreme ideological party.
Biden is an old man, too old, but the Democrats have made the decision that given his record and the fact that he beat Trump four years ago, he's their best chance of beating Trump again. It's a gamble, sure, but he probably stands as good a chance, or better, than a new candidate.

I fail to see how the Democrats, who are running a candidate who weeks ago said if Trump wasn't running, he wouldn't be, are the problem.

The problem here is the GOP.
There's no two sides/both sides....

Sure, Biden is old and showing all the signs of it but his record is good, or at least normal.

Also, I'm not a registered democrat.
But it blows my mind when people lump the two partys together.

Well said

Both sidesism normalizes today's GOP, which for all intents and purposes is the Party of Trump

yea, and even with my GOP friends who don't like Trump, it's straight to the 'both sides'.
The partizan brainwashing by the likes of Fox and other right wing media outlets is so entrenched even if you don't support Trump you automatically assume the Democrats are every bit as bad as the party that willingly enables him.

That’s not the point I was making though

Virtually no democrat, in a perfect world, wants Biden to run. Part of that reason is his age. For me personally, I want someone who’s a good leader and speaker - Biden has never been that

But the problem is that MAGA talks about how Biden is gone mentally, when their guy arguably sounds even more senile when he speaks

But just because he speaks at a sixth grade level and never, even when he was in his 40s,
Made any sense when he spoke, he somehow gets a pass

That’s the double standard that’s nauseating
speaking of which

One of the British commentators on US politics mentioned a possibility of Biden winning the nominee but not actually running and nominating someone to take his place.

There's an outside chance of that if Trump is convicted but even then any conviction would be appealed, taking him beyond the election.
I guess the other option is Biden just feeling like he's too old to do the job responsibly. Given the ego needed to do the job, I don't see that happening.
Even if it did, he'd probably just nominate Harris, who'd have less chance of winning.

Whoever that is, I'm sure it'll be better than whatever sycophant Trump chooses.

And that's even if it's Kamala
We were saying (in the uk) Kamala for this role last time …. She appears to be no nearer than then.

Too late for any Democrat to gin up the support this late in the game. Better if he waits to win this election, be sworn in, then step down after a short period citing health. We still end up with Harris, but again in the realm of bad outcomes, she is far, far, far from the worst.
