I know. But it appears that a lot more hope is pinned on celebrity endorsement by the Democrats. I dont think it shifts the dial very much if at all.
Absolutely—it won’t make much of a difference

While we're talking about endorsements, It’s ironic how any celebrity who openly supports the Democrats is immediately labelled with extreme or baseless accusations. There seems to be an automatic assumption from the MAGA crowd that there’s some hidden agenda or dirt on them, instead of it simply being a matter of their political preference. I’m not thrilled that The Undertaker endorsed Trump, but I’m also not going to assume there’s some hidden motive. It’s simply his political preference.

I noticed comments about Eminem like "Diddy must have dirt on him" or "they must be blackmailing him." But people don’t seem to realize that Eminem has been outspoken about Diddy and the music industry for years.

The 2016 election and the spread of conspiracy theories like Pizzagate and COVID-related misinformation seem to have seriously impacted some Americans' beliefs, leading to widespread, unsubstantiated claims that anyone connected to the Democratic Party is involved in sinister activities. It's unhinged.

Celebrity endorsement didn't do Hilary Clinton much good, that's for sure. Before her, Obama sold himself...which is as it should be. It's suspicious of any candidate seeking celebrity endorsement from a string of rock and pop stars: it'd make me think they're struggling and trying to take my attention away from how poor they were. It's the same with the Liz Cheney endorsement road show too. It looks weak.

Every candidate who has ever run for office has looked for endorsements from either famous or influential people ffs.

Trump is the "celebrity" in the GOP campaign. That's why he is able to say the dumbest [Poor language removed] that would scupper any other politicians campaign. The media treat him as a TV celebrity not a politician.

Getting celebrity endorsements or backing of famous institutions are a way of getting a candidate out of the political pages and onto the celebrity/music/sport pages etc so the overwhelming majority of people who are not political anoraks can see them.

But if candidates seeking endorsement are beaten as well as win where rests the evidence that it makes any difference?

I would say it is something that is not quantifiable. I mean people are not asked on the ballot why they chose that candidate, or who they heard of them from like a company survey.

In political races candidates will look for everything possible that could get votes, if that is possibly changing the mind of a few Swifties then all the better. Will they know if it has worked, very likely no, but it is a case of better be safe than sorry.

Less endorsements means less eyes seeing you or your message. It's not a guarantee of success, it's just another tool, like posters or adverts.

In a media space that Trump having a cognitive dumpster fire every other day gets wall to wall coverage, having Taylor Swift or Eminem getting your name in front of people who probably change the TV channel or swipe up can be important.

Yeah I understand that throwing the kitchen sink at it strategy.

Or it could be viewed by just as many people as cheapening your pitch.

In the UK I dont think it'd influence anyone. Maybe the US is different.
