…I’ve thought for a while this TV debate would be the critical factor, really hope Harris comes out of it well.

I really hope she can make him lose it and the mask to fully slip off. It won't change his MAGA cult, but may change some undecideds or some nose-holding GOPers.
Sadly I'm not sure there is anything Harris can do/say to change those same folks' minds. Even if she's manages to metaphorically pants him, media will go after her for being mean/disrespectful to an old man.

I think the more troubling suggestion comes in the second part of the clip where he suggests relaxing the standards necessary to become licensed to care for young kids. No way that could go wrong.

There’s obviously a social aspect to it, of course, although I’d say part of that social aspect is down to the fetishisation of the 2nd amendment, and the constitution more generally.

There’s other societies which have guns, but the US is a massive outlier when looking at the prevalence of gun ownership.

Think I’d go out on a limb here, and say there is a correlation between a country having lots of guns, and a country seeing lots of gun related deaths.

Nah, most gun ownership is due to bullshit rhetoric and most guns are owned by the same people. There's plenty of data on that. I'll probably never own a gun; the purpose of guns is to kill and I don't hunt and don't have any desire to kill a human. There are better ways to keep your family safe than to carry a gun.
