Unpopular opinion here, but I don’t mind this as a position. It’s horrifying, tone deaf and insensitive, sure, but it at least is a logical conclusion and acceptance of the consequence of the 2nd amendment.
If, as a country, America decides that allowing people to freely have guns as a constitutional right is fundamentally important to them, the consequence of that position is regular school shootings and 50,000 gun deaths a year.
The pro gun lobby need to own that position, and win that argument - that the benefits outweigh the costs.
Without wishing to derail the thread, this isn't necessarily a consequence of the second amendment - other societies have mass gun ownership and do not have mass shootings (workplace, school, malls etc) on anything like the scale that the US does now; in fact the US didn't use to have this problem on this scale within living memory.
It would be possible to have it in a much safer and much more beneficial form, but to do that one would have to change US society into something that didn't manufacture the sort of person who does this (or things like kill themselves) in such numbers.
