Used to be that the voters chose the politicians. Now the politicians choose the voters.

It’s the nature of 2 party politics that net negative/unfavourable ratings for party leaders is the norm.

KH is doing really well considering all the republicans answering.

I seem to recall folks like Reagan and Obama had >50% favorability for good stretches of their term and beyond. I suspect things have gotten more polarized though, which tends to track the razor-thin margins of recent presidential elections where folks evaluate a candidate more on party membership than on what they have actually done.

I think you’re spot on about the polarisation.

Interestingly I would have thought the same as you as both were popular for good stretches but you have to go back to Clinton for an average positive approval rating over 2 terms (55%).

Obama got 48% despite some very similar numbers to Reagan in the data set who comes out at 53%.

He just called Kamala Harris a "nasty woman". Desperate stuff from him as usual

The only thing that matters is the poll.

It's pretty well established what both candidates are:

Trump: an egomaniac, racist and misogyinist

Harris: a ropey VP with an inglorious term of office behind her

All the memes and twitter videos aren't changing minds in an ossified binary political environment. That's just people trying to comfort themselves that their side's going to win.

The opinion polls are pointing to maybe a Harris win but well within the margin of error. I dont see her chances hardening before 5 November, and I dont see Trump catching and overtaking her narrow lead.

It's all about voter commitment and getting them to the swing state polling booths on the day itself.

The rest of the next 9 weeks or so is just a circus where ad agencies make loads of cash and the media enjoy themselves.
