That wasn't a defence mechanism though was it?
Again, you and @Joey66, Gus is not diagnosed with autism.

There are different angles to the video that show Gus was about to run face first into the teleprompter. His sister, who was beside him on the other side had to walk around and in front of it while her dad and Gus went around and behind. With ADHD and NVLD (which effects spatial awareness) Gus didn’t “see” it and he was pulled to safety. He wasn’t harmed. He was prevented from possible physical harm and likely embarrassment and more viral videos where the cruel make fun of him.
Walz briefly had an irritated face. Do you know what he was thinking? Maybe he was irritated at himself, at his team as maybe they’d discussed such situations, who knows.

You are, as usual, just being a cantankerous wum, but maybe leave the kids out of it.

Hai Gen X here. IMO as a generation I always thought we were way too cynical to this nonsense. LOL was I wrong. The entirity of GenX pop culture is now just gorging on memberries when times were so much better (they weren't the 80s sucked).

We pretend that crime is a menace and ITS NEVER BEEN THIS BAD (we lived through the 80s otherwise known as the murder decade).

Once senility sets in we are gonna be worse than boomers. Also many of us migrated to Florida/Texas/South when we were young so more of us have been exposed to Florida, Newsmax and Fox for a lot longer than the boomers were.

That being said, don't listen to Yglesis as 99% of his taeks are pure nonsense.
Yeah, I was looking more at the NYT chart than Yglesis’s comments - I find him quite useful for finding interesting stuff, less so for his actual analysis.

I’m also Gen X but seem to be in a bubble with my similarly aged California friends - we’re all very anti Trump so interested in why the rest of our cohort are not so appreciate your insight!

And perhaps let parents running on little sleep, even with kids without any particular challenges, look or sound mildly irritated at times.

I’ve criticized Vance for lots of things but this wasn’t one of them.

The way you repeat MAGA talking points upsets me Dave.
It's not MAGA to find disturbing his irritable reaction.

As I've said before: I dont buy Walz. He comes across as a bit flakey. Which is why I thought the 'weird' jibe would rebound on him.

That's not right. I responded to a point brought up that struck me at the time of its happening as strange - and I wondered why it hadn't been commented on.

To your substantive point: I wasn't claiming again Walz's son was autistic. Joey asked me the direct question whether I had experience of autism and I responded to that.

You’ve spent quite a bit of recent time offering your views on Wlalz.

Not sure I’ve seen you say anything on JD Vance?
Vance is an unspeakable hillbilly. Did it really need stating?

My thing has always been about Gaza and the US election. Its about the Democratic side of the aisle as there'll be no respite from the Republicans for sure. I'd rather have seen a Newsom presidency because Harris has been implicated in a rotten policy on that issue - and Gaza is the biggest crime of this century thus far. As for Walz: he doesn't come across as a serious politician to me.

Interesting that you use the phrase “hillbilly”. Know that is in the title of the book that brought him to fame but always seemed more marketing than real to me.

Newsom is my governor and has historically been pretty similar to Harris on the positions he has taken, I doubt he would have looked at the political calculations of the situation and come to any different conclusions than Harris. And if you are thinking Gavin would have made idealistic, rather than political, choices then I don’t think you’ve really looked at his career.

I just read he was autistic - sorry, my error - I am not winding posters up - he chastised him then for his own safety what could he do - he did the correct thing then anyway ....

@BlueTX Iirc you have done a lot of GOTV, what do you think the pros/cons are of the Trump paid operation?

Only time I’ve done GOTV was for a friend that was running for a local council position. I cannot imagine how paid GOTV (unless they also believe in the ticket) would be as effective - very easy to claim you did things you didn’t and just “go through motions”.

Although there would be a presumably a benefit of better training and more practice for a full time position.

Paid GOTV is far less effective than volunteer efforts in my experience. For a recent example, Ron DeSantis outsourced his POTUS primary GOTV and spent mind-boggling sums of money for very little return. As you mentioned, one of the issues is fraudulent reporting to secure a paycheck. In college, a guy I knew used to do phone banking to raise money for the GOP. He'd fill out fake slips, indicating people had agreed to give $$, in order to get bonuses on top of his hourly pay. He quit before they found out what he was doing, the squirrel.

Well-trained and paid staff in candidate field offices to coordinate volunteers and target their efforts is essential. Local party offices functioning well is also crucial - something the Dems have struggled with in what should be purple states. Recently, this has been changing for the better. Largely, IMO, because of retrograde policies around women's reproductive health care on the part of the GOP. People tend to tell their friends and neighbors they are doing volunteer work on behalf of a candidate and why they are doing so. This grows the volunteer pool organically and energizes voters. I doubt a single voter has been swayed to vote for a candidate by hearing their friend is getting paid $12/hr to knock on doors.

As an aside, I'd wager we find out after the election that Elon's paid GOTV efforts on behalf of the Kotex Head campaign went to companies owned by members of the Trump family or very close associates.

It's all a grift with those people.
