This is painful to watch.

Trump is just lying his arse off and Biden is like a rabbit in the headlights, this is bad.

This happens every time to sitting presidents in the first debate. They spend four years having everyone bend over backwards, then get verbally punched in the mouth. No amount of practice can simulate the cognitive shift, and I don't think anyone can mimic Trump's Faulkner-style stream of consciousness in practice.

I wouldn't ordinarily suggest dropping down to Trump's level, but fighting down there is how Biden won the first time around. That ability is more or less why people coalesced behind Biden last time. Playing defense never works against Trump.

Trump's solution to a lack of prep seems to be answering whatever question he wishes was asked, rather than the one that was asked.

He has about 4 talking points and can’t deviate from them. Biden doesn’t know how to take advantage though.

Two appalling candidates. Ideally a situation would arise where they both have to end up pulling out of the race, but it's going to be one of them and that's a disaster.

As has been mentioned many times by many people, Biden’s main issue is his age. When you listen to what he says it’s (mainly) much clearer in terms of facts. But he is slow and stumbles over his words (which I know is in part due to a speech impediment). But then Trump just responds with his word salads and answering the question he wants to answer.

What I would give to see Obama debate Trump. Would be a bloodbath.

He’s much better when responding off the cuff than when delivering prepared answers. And the longer it’s gone on the more rubbish Trump has said so he’s had more chances to directly respond.

I can smell the hatred that Biden has for Trump through the TV. Fella is absolutely seething whenever Hunter's name is brought up. He'd love to (be able to) knock Trump out.
